17th IN – FN STAFF TALKS
- 17th Indian Navy (IN) – French Navy (FN) Staff Talks was held from 06-07 Feb 24 at New Delhi. The meeting was co-chaired by RAdm Nirbhay Bapna, ACNS (FCI) and RAdm Jean Marc Durandau, Director International Engagements, FN.
- The Talks witnessed active participation from both sides. Major discussions included operational, training, SME exchanges, etc. Both sides also acknowledged the growing cooperation between the two Navies and agreed to enhance collaboration and interoperability in the maritime domain.
- On the sidelines of the Staff Talks, RAdm Jean Marc Durandau, Director International Engagements, FN called on VAdm Tarun Sobti, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff on 07 Feb 24 and underscored the high level of synergy and interoperability between IN and FN. He also visited IFC – IOR on 06 Feb 24.
Armed Forces’ Nari Shakti On A Global Stage
- The World Defence Show 2024, currently being held in Riyadh, witnessed Tri-Service women representation, a testament to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi-led Government’s vision of leveraging Nari Shakti across domains.
- Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, Colonel Ponung Doming and Lieutenant Commander Annu Prakash represented the Armed Forces in the various seminars of the WDS 2024 especially in the International Women in Defence themed events.
- On February 07, 2024, Squadron Leader Bhawana Kanth, a fighter pilot from the Indian Air Force, took centre stage as a panellist at the seminar titled ‘International Women in Defence – Investing in an Inclusive Future’, hosted by Saudi Ambassador to the United States Princess Reema bint Bandar Al-Saud.
Indian Navy Looking To Equip Kalvari Submarines With Torpedoes
- Seeking to push Make in India in defence along with meeting its immediate requirements, the Indian Navy is pushing proposals to equip the Kalvari submarines with torpedoes through both the indigenous and the buy global routes.
- The proposals in this regard are expected to be discussed at a high-level defence ministry meeting next week. Two of the Indian Navy’s proposals include buying 48 heavy-weight torpedoes through a global tender and acquiring the Made in India Electrical Heavyweight Torpedo, which was developed by the DRDO.
- India had earlier projected requirements for around 98 of these torpedoes but given the progress made in the indigenous torpedo programme, the numbers planned for imports have been slashed by more than 50 per cent.
Army Inducts E-buses For Troop Movement Within Delhi-NCR
- In an attempt to ‘Go Green’ the Indian Army has inducted five electric buses for troop movement in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR), officials said.
- At a ceremony held at Manekshaw Centre in the national capital, Lt Gen MV Suchindra Kumar VCOAS was handed over the electric buses by VE Commercial Vehicle Ltd.
- “Indian Army has already been utilising Electric Cars since 2019 & this initiative will provide further impetus to the “Go Green” initiative,” the Army added.
- The Indian Army through it’s ‘Go-Green Initiative’ has collaborated with TATA Power, India’s largest integrated utility, to setup 16 charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) at various locations in Delhi Cantonment.
Advanced Variant Of Tejas Fighter To Take Flight By End Of This Month
- By the end of this month, the skies will witness the display of prowess from the advanced variant of the LCA – ‘TEJAS’ MK-1A. However, the IAF will only receive it upon the completion of initial training with the aerospace manufacturer according to a Bulgarian based defence portal.
- Created by Indian Aerospace conglomerate Hindustan Aeronautics Limited [HAL], the much-celebrated aircraft, ‘TEJAS,’ which translates to ‘brilliance or radiance.’ This fighter jet, a long time in the making, has indeed ignited India’s quest to ideate, create, and employ a domestic combat aircraft.
- HAL will now parade the evolution of this technology with the TEJAS’ MK-1A. As several sources claimed, the IAF’s ‘Cobras’, Number 3 Squadron, will be the first to operate the TEJAS MK-1A, as it retires its MiG-21 “Bisons”.
