The British Army in Brunei has recently received two H145-based Jupiter HC Mk2 helicopters, marking a significant step in its ongoing modernization efforts. These aircraft are part of a larger order for a total of six helicopters, following the earlier delivery of three units to the UK in 2025.
The 667 Squadron Army Air Corps will employ these advanced rotorcraft for a variety of missions tailored to the challenges of jungle terrain. The helicopters will enhance capabilities in medical evacuations, troop transport, external cargo operations, firefighting, and general aviation support. Additionally, they will play a crucial role in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
This acquisition is part of a program initiated by the UK Ministry of Defence, which was finalized in April 2024. The program aims to bolster operational support for British forces stationed in both Brunei and Cyprus.
In a related development, the Ministry of Defence awarded Airbus Helicopters a substantial contract worth £33.6 million ($45.3 million) in December 2025. This two-year agreement covers the initial support and servicing for the Jupiter HC2 fleet, ensuring that the helicopters are maintained to the highest operational standards.
All six H145 helicopters are expected to be fully operational in the theater by the end of 2026, with deliveries taking place over a swift two-year timeline. The defense ministry has highlighted this acquisition as one of its fastest procurement programs to date.
The H145, measuring approximately 14 meters (46 feet) in length, is a versatile light utility rotorcraft capable of seating up to 10 personnel, in addition to one or two pilots. With a payload capacity of roughly 1,900 kilograms (4,189 pounds), the aircraft is designed to perform a wide range of missions effectively.
Powered by two reliable turboshaft engines, the H145 can achieve speeds of approximately 130 knots (241 kilometers/150 miles per hour) and boasts a range of 650 kilometers (404 miles), with a maximum operational altitude nearing 6,096 meters (20,000 feet). This combination of speed, range, and versatility positions the H145 as a critical asset for modern military operations.
