Captain Deeksha’s background as a Medical Officer with a Parachute Regiment (Special Forces) battalion is truly impressive. Women in PARA SF?
While women are not currently permitted to serve in the Para SF as combatants, Indian Army doctors of both genders are regularly attached to Para SF battalions and receive the same rigorous training as Para SF soldiers.
As Medical Officers, they are responsible for providing medical care to soldiers and assisting them in their missions. They receive specialized training in combat medicine and must be physically and mentally fit to work in high-stress, demanding environments. While Indian Army doctors attached to Para SF battalions receive the same training as the soldiers, their primary role is medical care and support rather than combat. Nonetheless, their role is critical to the success of the Para SF missions, and the Indian Army highly values their training and dedication.
Can women become members of PARA SF?
In India, women are not yet permitted to join the Para SF (Parachute Regiment (Special Forces)). The Indian Army does have a number of roles open to women, including combat roles in some branches of the military, but the Para SF was not open to women at the time of my knowledge cutoff.
