Green Development Pact For A Sustainable Future

NITI Aayog in partnership with Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW) is organizing a workshop on the “Green Development Pact for a Sustainable Future” in India, New Delhi.
The workshop aims to gather practical insights for implementing the Geen Development Pact, as part of a series of discussions related to the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
India’s G20 presidency emphasized that there is need for cooperative solutions amidst global challenges and successfully secured the adoption of the G20 New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration on the Green Development Pact.

The workshop aims to generate actionable recommendations for the successful implementation of the Green Development Pact, with specific focus on energy transition, ecosystem conservation, and disaster-resilient infrastructure. The outcomes of the workshop will be compiled as an outcome document providing a blueprint for sustainable climate action globally.
The workshop is focused on three distinct sessions with each segment aimed to coalesce into specific action points and strategies that are required to implement the vision laid out in the NDLD:
Implementing Clean, Sustainable, Just, Affordable & Inclusive Energy Transition – To promote energy security, facilitate technology access, and encourage innovation, it is imperative to address the affordability and reliability of deploying clean and sustainable energy sources and technologies.
Restoring, Conserving and sustainably using ecosystems – The Leaders’ Declaration emphasizes the importance of healthy ecosystems in addressing climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification, drought, land degradation, pollution, food insecurity and water scarcity.
Adaptation and disaster resilient infrastructure – The Leaders’ Declaration acknowledges the disproportionate impact of climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification and pollution on vulnerable communities with particular emphasis on women and girls. To build national and community resilience, India’s G20 Presidency catalyzed efforts in disaster risk reduction by “Institutionalizing the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Working Group”.

‘Bharat Atta’ Initiative

Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Piyush Goyal, has launched a significant initiative to provide affordable wheat flour to consumers under the ‘Bharat’ brand.
This initiative aims to offer a cost-effective alternative to the market prices, contribute to price moderation, and support the welfare of ordinary consumers.
The launch of ‘Bharat’ Atta is a significant step in the government’s commitment to support farmers and ensure essential commodities remain affordable for consumers.
This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to stabilizing prices, enhancing supply, and benefiting both farmers and consumers.
It aligns with the government’s ongoing commitment to ease the financial burden on the common man while supporting the agricultural sector.
In a similar effort, the government previously introduced the Bharat Dal scheme, offering chickpeas (chana dal) and affordable onions to further support consumer welfare.

Surveyor General Of India

Hitesh Kumar S. Makwana, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) official of the Tamil Nadu cadre, has been appointed as the Surveyor General of India.
Prior to this appointment, he served as an Additional Secretary in the Union Home Ministry.

Axis Bank Partners With IRMA

Axis Bank and the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Axis Bank Chair for financial inclusion at IRMA.
This chair will play a pivotal role in advancing financial inclusion and financial literacy in India, aligning with the vision of equitable and sustainable transformation for the nation.

The Axis Bank Chair for Financial Inclusion has been established for a period of five years, and it encompasses several key objectives and functions: to lead and manage field-based research efforts that contribute to the development of national and state-level financial inclusion policies.
Foster closer collaboration between the financial industry and the academic community. promoting thought leadership in the field of financial inclusion. This includes organizing workshops, roundtables, and symposia that bring together experts and stakeholders to discuss and develop innovative ideas.
To enhance financial literacy in India. It will do so by providing educational courses and programs at the Institute of Rural Management Anand.

IREDA Launches CSR Portal

The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), operating under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has unveiled a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portal aimed at bolstering transparency in its CSR initiatives.
This initiative aligns with IREDA’s commitment to social responsibility and sustainability. Enhancing Transparency.

The newly launched CSR portal will serve as a platform for transparently managing CSR requests from various organizations and institutions.
Accessible 24/7, it includes a CSR policy and proposal checklist for scrutinizing CSR requests effectively.
By promoting transparency and accessibility, the portal aims to streamline the execution of IREDA’s social welfare projects, making them easily accessible to the public.

‘Incredible India’ At WTM London

The Ministry of Tourism, India, along with various stakeholders, is actively participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) London.
The Ministry has set up an impressive 650-square-meter space for the ‘Incredible India Pavilion’ at WTM 2023, London.
The pavilion serves as a platform to showcase a diverse array of tourism products and transformative experiences for travelers under the theme ‘Incredible India! Visit India Year 2023.’
WTM 2023 features 47 participants, including tour operators, destination management companies (DMCs), and State Tourism Departments from various regions of India.
States like Delhi, Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Bihar, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Odisha, Assam, and the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) are part of the Incredible India Pavilion.

The Ministry of Tourism aims to leverage WTM 2023 as a platform for networking, business opportunities, and the exchange of ideas within the travel and tourism industry. The event draws a diverse range of attendees, including travel agencies, tour operators, airlines, hoteliers, cruise lines, travel technology providers, and tourism boards.
Aside from presenting a wide array of tourism products and transformative experiences, the Ministry of Tourism is prioritizing the promotion of sustainable tourism.

Abua Bir Dishom Abhiyan

The Jharkhand government launched a special campaign named “Abua Bir Dishom Abhiyan” with the goal of providing land title certificates to individuals and communities under the Forest Rights Act.
This initiative is aimed at recognizing and securing the rights of Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers to self-cultivation, habitation, and various other activities within forest areas.

Here, we delve into the reasons behind this drive and the challenges it faces. The Jharkhand government is determined to streamline the process of generating Forest Rights Act claims and distributing titles.
To achieve this, it has established a dedicated website and mobile application to facilitate tracking of applications and verification of geotagged land parcels.

The Forest Rights Act (FRA) of 2006 recognizes the rights of forest-dwelling tribal communities and other traditional forest dwellers to forest resources. The act was intended to address the “historical injustice” done to “traditional forest dwellers” of India.
It was enacted to protect the right to life and livelihood of scheduled tribes and other traditional forest dwellers.

WHO Acknowledges India’s Success In Declining TB

World Health Organization, has acknowledged India’s success in declining TB incidence by 16 percent and TB mortality reduction by 18 percent in the year 2022 since 2015.
The World Health Organization released its Global TB Report 2023 yesterday which states that India has made tremendous progress in improving case detection and reversed the impact of COVID-19 on the TB programme.

It said that the treatment coverage has improved to 80 percent of the estimated TB cases, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year.
WHO has made a downward revision of the TB mortality rates from 4.94 lakhs in 2021 to 3.31 lakhs in 2022 showing a reduction of over 34 percent.
The report notes that India’s intensified case detection strategies have resulted in the highest-ever notification of cases in the year 2022, during which over 24.22 lakh TB cases were notified, surpassing the pre-COVID levels.
