World Pulses Day 2026: Celebrating Nutrition and Sustainability

World Pulses Day 2026 will be observed globally on 10 February 2026, emphasizing the critical role pulses play in nutrition, sustainable agriculture, and environmental protection. The day is recognized by the United Nations to raise awareness about how affordable foods such as lentils, beans, peas, and chickpeas contribute to food security and climate resilience.

World Pulses Day has been celebrated annually on 10 February since 2019, following its official declaration by the UN General Assembly in December 2018. The observance builds upon the success of the International Year of Pulses 2016, which highlighted pulses as essential crops for achieving sustainable development goals.

The theme for World Pulses Day 2026, “Pulses of the World: From Modesty to Excellence,” reflects the journey of these humble crops from traditional diets to globally recognized superfoods rich in protein, fiber, and micronutrients.

India holds a prominent position as one of the largest producers and consumers of pulses. The observance encourages Indian farmers to adopt practices such as crop rotation and intercropping, which improve soil fertility, enhance productivity, increase farm income, and support national nutrition and food security goals.

India and Seychelles Announce SESEL Joint Vision

India and Seychelles strengthened their bilateral ties by announcing a Joint Vision for Sustainability, Economic Growth and Security through Enhanced Linkages (SESEL) on 9 February 2026. The vision was unveiled during the State Visit of the President of Seychelles to India, following discussions between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Patrick Herminie.

The SESEL framework provides a comprehensive roadmap for cooperation in sustainability, economic development, and security. A major highlight was India’s announcement of a USD 175 million Special Economic Package, comprising a USD 125 million rupee-denominated Line of Credit and USD 50 million in grant assistance.

Health cooperation emerged as a key pillar of the partnership. India donated 10 advanced ambulances to Seychelles and both nations agreed to recognize the Indian Pharmacopoeia, enabling Seychelles to access affordable and high-quality medicines through India’s Jan Aushadhi initiative.

Maritime security remains central to the partnership. India reaffirmed its support for Seychelles under Vision MAHASAGAR, while Seychelles agreed to establish a Hydrographic Unit with Indian assistance, strengthening regional maritime safety and defense cooperation.

MeitY Launches SATYA Portal for Digital Governance

India’s journey towards transparent and efficient digital governance advanced further with the launch of the STQC Lab Automation Portal – SATYA on 9 February 2026. The portal was inaugurated by Union Minister Jitin Prasada under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).

SATYA is a lab automation platform developed for the Standardization Testing and Quality Certification (STQC) Directorate. It integrates testing, certification, and quality assurance services into a single end-to-end digital system, improving efficiency and transparency.

The STQC Directorate plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, security, and reliability of electronic and IT products in India. Through SATYA, industries benefit from faster certification timelines, while startups and MSMEs experience reduced procedural burdens, enabling quicker market access for compliant products.

The portal has been developed with the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) as the technical partner. The government has encouraged all stakeholders to actively use the platform and provide feedback to ensure continuous improvement.
