  • The Indian Army’s College of Military Engineering (CME), Pune, Maharashtra, jointly with a private firm developed gunshot locators named as “Parth”. The device is much cheaper than the imported ones. Major Anoop Mishra displayed the Parth gun shot locator at DefExpo 2020 held in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh (UP). Parth gunshot locator costs around Rs 3 lakhs which is less than the imported ones, which costs around Rs 65 lakhs.The device can locate the exact location of a bullet from a distance of 400m & neutralize terrorists faster. Major Mishra had developed a bulletproof jacket for protection against sniper bullets & a helmet which is claimed first in the world that can stop AK-47 (Automatic Kalashnikov- 47) bullets from a distance of 10 meters.
  • The 13th Conference of Parties (COP) of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), an environmental treaty under the aegis of United Nations Environment Programme, is going to be hosted by India during 17th to 22nd February 2020 at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. The Government of India is Signatory to the Convention on Conservation of Migratory wild Animals (CMS) since 1983.
  • The Government of India has been taking necessary actions to protect and conserve migratory marine species. Seven species that include Dugong, Whale Shark, Marine Turtle (two species), have been identified for preparation of Conservation and Recovery Action Plan.

  • A 2-day long 4th edition of EAS (East Asia Summit) Conference on Maritime Security Cooperation 2020 was held in Chennai , Tamil Nadu (TN) from February 6-7 2020. The conference was jointly organised by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Government of India (GoI) in association with the governments of Australia and Indonesia.
  • World Pulses Day was observed on Feb 10, 2020. World Pulses day was established by the Food and  Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to recognize the importance of pulses (dry beans, lentils, dry peas, chickpeas, lupins) as global food.
  • World Pulses day has been designated on Feb 10 every year since 2019 by the 73rd session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly on December 20, 2018.
  • The day is celebrated to bring awareness about the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security and nutrition.
  • The Government of India has decided to rename National Institute of Financial Management (NIFM), Faridabad as Arun Jaitley National Institute of Financial Management (AJNIFM).
  • NIFM, Faridabad was set up in 1993 as a registered society under Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Government of India with the mandate to train officers of various Finance and Accounts Services recruited by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) through the Civil Services Examination as also officers of Indian Cost Accounts Service (ICoAS). The Union Finance Minister is the President of the NIFM Society.
  • On February 01, 2020 the govt of Andhra Pradesh (AP) has launched a doorstep pension delivery scheme named YSR Pension Kanuka. Under the scheme various welfare pensions will be delivered to the pensioners.
  • Indian Olympic Association(IOA) has invited BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to become the Goodwill Ambassador of the Indian contingent at the Tokyo Olympics Games 2020, which is scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
  • General Audrey Azoulay Directorate General of UNESCO visited Pink City or walled city Jaipur, which in June 2019 became 38th World Heritage site in India. She presented the World Heritage City certificate to Minister of Urban Development Shanti Dhariwal. In 2017, Ahmedabad became the first city of India to get the World Heritage City tag.
  • The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), a department of the Ministry of Communications has approved the merger of consumer mobile operations of the Tata group –Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) with Bharti Airtel Limited (also known as Airtel).
