Indian Navy and Indian Army Biannual Joint Exercise Jal Prahar held in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh. Exercise Jal Prahar 2024 is a biannual joint exercise between Indian Navy & Indian Army focusing on amphibious operations. Aiming to validate and fine-tune its strategy to take over enemy land via sea, the Indian military has just completed a mammoth amphibious exercise “Jal Prahar” that saw participation of Army and Navy.

The aim was also to check preparedness and readiness of the armed forces to ensure functional integrity of all three services and security of the Islands.

Eastern Naval Command

The ENC is one of the three command-level formations of the Indian Navy. It is headquartered in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The command is responsible for the all-naval forces in the Bay of Bengal and parts of the Indian Ocean and the naval establishments on the east coast of India. The headquarters in Visakhapatnam, is also a strategically important dockyard for two nuclear-powered submarines. Due to congestion and heavy shipping traffic, a new 20 square km base INS Varsha is being developed for exclusive naval use about 50 km south of Visakhapatnam. The Eastern Navy fleet is distributed among its bases at Paradip, Tuticorin, Kakinada and Chennai on the east coast, and in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Raksha Rajya Mantri Ajay Bhatt gave away the best marching contingents and tableaux awards for the Republic Day Parade on January 30, 2024. He announced separate results – one by a panel of judges and other through an online public vote conducted by MyGov and congratulated all the winners. Three panels of judges were appointed for assessing the performance of Marching Contingents from three Services, Marching Contingents from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF)/other auxiliary forces and tableaux from various States/Union Territories and Ministries/Departments.

An online poll was conducted by MyGov for the citizens to vote for their favourite Tableaux from States/UTs and Ministries/Departments as also amongst the Marching contingents to select the best amongst popular choice category.

India & Oman Ink MoU On Procurement Of Defence Material And Equipment

  • Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane co-chaired the 12th Joint Military Cooperation Committee (JMCC) meeting with Secretary General, Ministry of Defence, Oman Dr. Mohammed Bin Naseer Bin Ali Al Zaabi in Muscat on 31 Jan 2024.
  • The JMCC meeting delved into many new areas of cooperation in the fields of training, Joint exercise, Information sharing, Oceanography, Ship Building & MRO, that would build mutual trust and interoperability between militaries of both nations. Further, they also exchanged views on regional and global issues of shared interest.
  • Towards implementing India – Oman Joint Vision Document entitled  ‘A Partnership for the Future’, adopted in Dec 2023, the Defence Secretary & Secretary General signed a MoU to procurement of Defence Material & Equipment which would provide a framework for a new area of defence collaboration.

ICG 48th Anniversary

  • Indian Coast Guard Day is observed annually on February 1 to commemorate the crucial role played by the organisation in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. In 2024, India will mark the 48th anniversary of ICG Day, aiming to raise awareness about the history and significance of the ICG.
  • It was formally established on 1 February 1977 by the Coast Guard Act, 1978 of the Parliament of India. ICG saved 11,561 lives since it was founded in 1977, officials said. Since its inception to Dec 31, 2023, it carried out 3,899 search and rescue operations, 8,012 sorties and 453 medical evacuations at sea.

GRSE, Rolls-Royce Sign License Agreement To Manufacture MTU S4000

  • Warship building company Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd (GRSE) and Rolls-Royce signed a Frame and Individual License Agreement to co-operate in the license production and localisation of the MTU IMO Tier II compliant Series 4000 Marine Engines for governmental ships.
  • As part of the agreement, the engines will be manufactured at the Diesel Engine Plant of GRSE in Ranchi.
  • The collaboration is a part of the ‘Make in India’ joint initiative and has significant market potential in coming years for all Fast Patrol Vessels, Interceptor Boats and Fast Attack Craft projects of Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard, the company said in a media release.
