Israel Approves USD 344 Million Sale Of ‘David’s Sling’ Defense System To Finland 

• Israel’s Ministry of Defense revealed that the US Government approved the sale by Israel of the country’s “David’s Sling” anti-missile defence system to Finland.
• The Israeli defence contractor that develops the system – will participate in a ceremony to sign a procurement agreement worth approximately 316 million Euros (USD 344 million).
• The IDF says David’s Sling system is capable of intercepting missiles fired towards Israel by enemy countries such as Iran and Syria.
• It can protect any country that uses it against large-calibre rockets, short-range ballistic missiles, and other developing threats. It’s scheduled to be operational in two weeks.
• Unlike, the mobile Iron Dome, David’s Sling is stationary and can protect the entirety of Israel from its permanent location, explains the IDF.
• Rafael boasts that David’s Sling’s “advanced, multi-mission interceptor,” also known as the Stunner or the SkyCeptor, a joint endeavour of Rafael & Raytheon, two leaders in advanced weapons system development, offers interceptor as lethal, flexible and affordable hit-to-kill to defeat mass raids of threats.

Over 20 Strategic Roads Close To LAC Have Year-end Deadline  

• Over 20 strategic roads in Ladakh and northeast, several of them new alignments, have been identified as top priority projects to be completed by year-end.
• The focus is on building new alternative and lateral connectivity to the strategic Sub Sector North (SSN) besides considerable realignment works around the Durbuk-Shyok- Daulat Beg Oldie Road segment.
• The critical roads under construction include a road to provide alternate connectivity to the Daulat Beg Oldie (DBO) airfield located on the Depsang Plains in the strategic subsector north (SSN) and the realignment work on the Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie (DS-DBO) road.
• The Sasoma-Saser La road (which will create alternate connectivity to DBO via the Saser La pass), the 32 km long Lukung-Chartse road (for connectivity from the north bank of Pangong Tso to the Hot Spring area), the 55 km long Changchenmo-Tsogatsalu road (providing connectivity to the strategic Changchenmo sector, which lies south of Aksai Chin), and the Mahe-Chushul and Koyul-Chisumle-Zursar roads are marked for completion by December.

Port Call Of Ins Sahyadri And Ins Kolkata To Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea  

• INS Sahyadri and Kolkata, mission deployed in the Eastern IOR, arrived at Port Moresby on 02 Aug 23, for enhancing maritime partnership and cooperation with Papua New Guinea.
• During the port call, the crew from the two ships will engage with personnel from the PNG Defence Forces in a wide range of activities including professional interactions, cultural exchanges, Yoga sessions and ship visits. The port call is aimed at strengthening ties between India and Papua New Guinea in the maritime domain.

Tinsukia Gold Cup 2023 Organised by the Indian Army Concluded in Assam        

• the tournament in front of more than 200 energised spectators and was awarded Rs 50000/- a cash prize and the runner-up was awarded Rs 30000/-. The tournament has paved the way for better interaction and social synergy between the army and locals.
