Kalyani Strategic Systems Gets Howitzer Export Order Worth USD 155 million
- In a major success for Indian firm KalyStrategic Systems Limited on Wednesday announced receiving an order worth USD 155 million for supplying howitzers.
- However, the Baba Kalyani-owned company did not disclose the buyer except for clarifying that it was in a non-conflict zone. Kalyani is one of the major investors in the defense sector and has been offering a number of weapon systems to India as well as foreign countries.
- The company has been working with DRDO to develop the advanced tower artillery gun system (ATAGS) and has also developed an ultra-light howitzer. The Prime Minister has also urged the defence industry to develop its products for the global market and achieve USD 5 billion targets by 2025.
- The defence ministry has set a goal of a turnover of $25 billion (Rs 1.75 lakh crore) in defence manufacturing in the next five years that included an export target of $5 billion (Rs 35,000 crore) worth of military hardware.
- In the last few years, the government has taken a series of measures to promote domestic defence production.

Raksha Mantri Interacts with The Senior Leadership During Army Commanders’ Conference
- The Army Commanders’ Conference, an apex level biannual event, is being held in New Delhi from 07 to 11 Nov 2022. During the event, Indian Army’s apex leadership is comprehensively deliberating upon all aspects of existing security scenarios and challenges for the present security apparatus.
- The main highlight of the third day of the conference was the interaction of Rajnath Singh, with the senior leadership of the Indian Army, which was preceded by a briefing on the “Transformational imperatives for a future-ready force” plans of the Indian Army.
- The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri reasserted the faith of the billion-plus citizens in the Indian Army as one of the most trusted and inspiring organisations in the country. He highlighted the stellar role played by the Army in guarding our borders and fighting terrorism apart from providing assistance to the civil administration whenever called for.
- The Raksha Mantri complimented the forces for the high standard of operational preparedness and capabilities which he has always been experiencing first-hand during his visits to forward areas. He commended the Army’s efforts to develop niche technologies in collaboration with civil industries, including premier educational institutions and thereby progressing towards the aim of ‘Modernisation through Indigenisation’ or ‘Atam Nirbharta’.
- The Hon’ble Raksha Mantri commended the Indian Army for maintaining a high operational readiness towards ensuring security and national sovereignty and commended that “I have full faith and confidence in the Indian Army and its leadership”. He concluded by saying that we ought to be prepared for any operational contingencies and hence the operational readiness should always be at its peak level.
- Besides, tensions have also surged between Japan and China over the disputed territory known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan.
42 International Congress Of The Indian National Cartographic Association
- The 42 INCA is being organised by the National Hydrographic Office (NHO), Dehradun from 09 to 11 Nov 22. The Governor of Uttarakhand His Excellency Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, (Retd.) was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural Session on 09 Nov 22.
- The Chief Hydrographer to the Govt. of India, Vice Admiral Adhir Arora, is the current President of INCA. The personnel of the Naval Hydrographic Department working on the cutting edge of cartography have been active in the INCA since its inception in 1979.
- The focal theme for the 42d INCA Congress is ‘Digital Cartography to Harness Blue Economy’.

The deliberation of the Congress will be divided into 07 sub-themes including Space Technologies for Mapping, Cartographic Applications for Sustainable Development, Geomatics in Disaster Management, Mapping for Environmental Planning & Management, Hydrography for Resource Management and Land Resource Mapping and Surveying. All the subjects are of contemporary interest to the cartographer and scientific community. A large number of papers on these subjects would be presented by eminent personnel in the field. The outcome of the Congress is to explore feasibility of utilising cartography as a tool for developmental purposes.

Maritime History Society To Conduct ITS 43rd Annual Seminar On 15 Nov 2022
- The Maritime History Society (MHS) is organising its 43rd Annual Seminar on 15 Nov 22 at the Agastya Auditorium at INHS Asvini, Colaba. The theme for the day-long seminar is “Exploring the Trajectory of India’s Sea Power”.
- The seminar intends to trigger the audience’s curiosity by providing a complete historical overview that might serve as a foundation for establishing a sustainable maritime doctrine, unified maritime policies, and a comprehensive national maritime development plan.
- The seminar features 10 presenters who will navigate through the historical evolution and application of sea power in India and discuss its implications thereof. The speakers and moderators include Commodore (Dr) Srikant Kesnur (Retd), Mr. Pramod Kapoor, Captain Raghavendra Mishra (Retd), Captain M Doraibabu, Captain Himadri Das, Commander Ninad Phatarphekar (Retd), Commander Kalesh Mohanan, Commamder RS Sawan, Ms. Janhavi Lokegaonkar and Mr. Dennard D’Souza.
Malabar EXERCISE BETWEEN NAVIES OF INDIA, JAPAN, US, AUSTRALIA BEGINS
- The multilateral exercise, Malabar 2022, between the navies of India, Japan, the United States and Australia commenced on Wednesday with the opening ceremony hosted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force onboard JS Hyuga at Yokosuka in Japan.
- Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet, led the Indian delegation which includes commanding officers and the crew of INS Shivalik and INS Kamorta.
- Malabar Exercise started in 1992 as a bilateral naval exercise between the navies of India and the US. Japan joined the Malabar exercise in 2015, making it a trilateral exercise. In 2020, Australia became part of Malabar, making it a quadrilateral naval exercise.
- Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral R Hari Kumar is on an official visit to Japan where he witnessed the International Fleet Review (IFR) conducted by the Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force at Yokosuka on Nov 6 to commemorate the 70th Anniversary of its formation.
- During his visit, he also met naval chiefs of the Royal Australian Navy, Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force and US Navy.
- The Malabar series of exercises has seen increasing scope and complexity over the years.
- Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kamorta also arrived at Yokosuka, Japan on November 2 to participate in the IFR and Exercise Malabar – 2022.
- The presence of these indigenously built ships of the Indian Navy at these multi-national events is an opportunity to showcase the ship-building capabilities of Indian Shipyards during a large international gathering.
BEL Signs MoU With Aerosense Tech To Leverage Complementary Strengths
- Defence public sector undertaking BEL has signed an MoU with Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd for co-operation in the development and marketing of drones and soft kill aerial anti-drone.
- The MoU aims at leveraging the complementary strengths and capabilities of BEL and Aerosense Technologies Pvt Ltd, said a joint statement from the companies.
- The tie-up would enable the two companies design and develop drones and soft kill aerial anti-drone systems. Besides, the two would explore marketing and sale of drone-based solutions for applications in defence and civilian domains for the domestic and export markets.
