Pinaka Extended Range Rocket Successfully Flight-tested In Pokhran
- Trials of the Pinaka extended range rocket was carried out at Pokhran Firing Ranges in Rajasthan on Wednesday. Multiple successful test firings were carried out during the tests.
- The Pinaka rocket has been developed by DRDO, however, the rockets are produced by private sector firm. The Pinaka is an Artillery Missile System capable of striking into enemy territory up to a range of 75 km with high precision.
- The missile system has been jointly developed by various DRDO Laboratories viz. Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE) and High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL).
- Amid the ongoing border standoff with China in eastern Ladakh, the Indian Army has deployed Pinaka and Smerch Multiple Rocket Launcher Systems (MRLS) at forward position.
Major Gen R Putarjunam assumed the appointment of ADG, Army Education
- Major General R Putarjunam assumed the appointment of Additional Director General, Army Education of Indian Army.
- The Army Education Corps of India is a program run by the Indian Army that develops soldiers and officers of all ranks in a variety of disciplines. The centre provides education in both combat and non-combat operations. The Corps’ facilities are located in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh state.
- Army Educational Corps Training College and Centre, Pachmarhi has its origin dating back to 24 Apr 1921 when the British Indian Army HQ India, established the Army School of Education with two separate wings, namely, the British Wing at Wellington and the Indian Wing at Belgaum in 1924.
Indian Army Calls Garuda Aerospace Expert Team
- The Indian Army has asked the technical team of Chennai-based drone maker Garuda Aerospace to modify drones for security needs. Garuda Aerospace has created significant traction by deploying drones for unique applications to support the Indian Army and now will be using multiple purpose drones for strategic and tactical operations.
- According to Garuda Aerospace, demining is an inherently dangerous operation, and the army is constantly endeavoring to improve the speed, cost, and efficacy of this process.
- The army also intends to further the usage of drones in integral day to day activities as well as bolster effectiveness of special missions by detecting, deterring, and disrupting transnational organised criminal networks, the company added.
- Garuda Aerospace received national and international recognition for its success in the drone sector. Garuda Aerospace is one of India’s top 3 enterprises. It received an NRDF Award for Bravery for the support we provided to the Indian forces in the Uttarakhand Glacier disaster.
South African Army Chief Visited India
- Chief of the South African Army Lt General Lawrence Khulekani Mbatha called on Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari at Air headquarters on Tuesday and discussed bilateral issues and defence cooperation between the two countries.
- Lt Gen Lawrence Khulekani Mbatha, Chief of South African Army visited Shatrujeet Brigade, where he was briefed on the history & operational capabilities of the Brigade. He also witnessed a training demonstration conducted by the formation.
- Both countries established the India-South Africa Joint Commission at the level of Foreign Ministers in 1994 to identify areas of mutually beneficial cooperation. IBSMAR Ex conducted b/w both nations.
- The two sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues including cooperation at the UN, BRICS, IBSA and IORA. The South African side assured of their support for the upcoming India G20 Presidency while the Indian side expressed its support for South Africa’s BRICS Chairmanship in 2023.
Young Lions Camp 2022
- Indian Military Training Team IMTRAT at Bhutan organised a Young Lions Camp for children from all across Bhutan. 227 children participated in the camp with great zeal & enthusiasm. The event further strengthened the bond between the people of Bhutan and the Indian Army.
Bhutan’s Significance to India
- India and Bhutan have been sharing ties since 1910 when Bhutan became a protectorate of British India, allowing the British to “guide” its foreign affairs and defence.
- When India declared independence in 1947, Bhutan was among the first nations to recognize it. Since then, the relationship between the countries has become stronger, especially because Bhutan also has a historically tense relationship with China.
- Besides sharing a 699 Kilometres border, India and Bhutan also share deep religious-cultural links. Guru Padmasambhava, a Buddhist saint played an influential role in spreading Buddhism and cementing traditional ties between people in both nations.
- Bhutan shares a border with four Indian States: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Sikkim.
- Nestled in the Himalayas, Bhutan serves as a buffer between India and China.
- Security of Bhutan’s present borders especially its western border is very important for India.
- Both India and Bhutan are founding members of SAARC which deals with the economic, social, and cultural development of the South Asian Region.
