PM Modi Inaugurates Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre built on an approximately 50 acres area at Mullanpur in S A S Nagar district of Punjab to the nation.
  • The 300 bedded state-of-the-art Homi Bhabha cancer hospital and research center built at a cost of approximately 684 crore rupees would bolster the cost-effective cancer treatment in the State and it would also provide cancer treatment facilities to the people of Northern India.
  • Earlier, He inaugurated the Amrita Hospital in the Faridabad district of Haryana.
  • Managed by Mata Amritanandamayi Math, the super-specialty hospital will be equipped with 2,600 beds. The hospital, which is being constructed at an estimated cost of around Rs. 6000 crores will provide state-of-the-art healthcare facilities to the people of Faridabad and the entire NCR region.

13th International Conference And Exhibition Of Metals

  • Minister of Steel Jyotiraditya Scindia will inaugurate the 13th edition of the International Conference and Exhibition by the Indian Institute of Metals at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi this Friday.
  • Ministry of Steel in a statement today said that the conference aims at identifying long-term measures to promote a circular economy to minimize dependency on the extraction of natural virgin ore and prepare recommendations and approaches for the metal industry to evolve environmentally friendly, cost-effective, energy-efficient strategies, policies, and practices.
  • The theme of this year’s conference is “Resource Efficiency and Circular Economy in Mineral and Metal Sectors. ”

NHA To Medical Packages To Transgenders

  • Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Health Authority for providing a comprehensive medical package to transgender people.
  • All health benefits which include general health provisions as well as gender re-affirmation surgery shall be available for transgender persons in the health benefits package under Ayushman Bharat Yojana. Under this initiative, each transgender person shall receive a medical cover of 5 lakh rupees per year.
  • The Comprehensive package would cover all aspects of transition-related healthcare for Transgender persons. It shall also provide coverage of hormone therapy, and gender reaffirmation surgery.

Grand Finale Of Smart India Hackathon 2022

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the grand finale of Smart India Hackathon 2022.
  • It has been the constant endeavour of the Prime Minister to promote a spirit of innovation in the country, especially among the youth. With this vision in mind, Smart India Hackathon was started in the year 2017.
  • Smart India Hackathon is a nationwide initiative to provide students a platform to solve the pressing problems of society, organizations, and government. It is world’s biggest open innovation platform. It aims to inculcate the culture of product innovation, problem-solving, and out-of-the-box thinking among students.
  • In the 5th edition of Smart India Hackathon 2022 grand finale, more than 15 thousand students and over two thousand 500 mentors will participate. Students from over two thousand 900 schools, two thousand 235 Higher Education Institutions, and over two thousand teams will tackle 476 problem statements which are shortlisted for finale.
  • This year, Smart India Hackathon – Junior has also been introduced as a pilot for school students to build a culture of innovation and develop problem-solving attitude at the school level.

National Conference Of Labour Ministers

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the National Conference of Labour Ministers of all States and Union Territories.
  • The two-day Conference is being organised by the Labour and Employment Ministry at Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Conference is being convened in the spirit of cooperative federalism to discuss various significant labour-related issues. It will help create further synergy amongst the Centre and State Governments in formulating better policies and ensuring effective implementation of schemes for the welfare of workers.
  • The Conference will have four thematic sessions. These include integrating the e-Shram portal for onboarding social security schemes to universalize social protection and  Swasthya se Samriddhi for improving medical care through ESI hospitals. Framing of rules under four Labour Codes as well as Vision Shramev Jayate @ 2047 are the other two themes.

SC Strikes Down Provision Of 1988 Benami Law

  • The Supreme Court  has struck down one of the provisions of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act of 1988, which provides for the punishment of a maximum jail term of three years or a fine or both for those indulging in benami’ transactions.
  • The apex court termed the provision unconstitutional on the ground of being manifestly arbitrary.  A bench comprising Chief Justice N V Ramana and Justices C T Ravikumar and Hima Kohli said.
  • The court hold section 3(2) of the Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act, 1988 as unconstitutional.
  • The verdict came on the appeal of the Centre challenging the Calcutta High Court judgement in which it was held that the amendment made in the 1988 Act in 2016 would be applicable with prospective effect.

UNICEF: Warns Children In Horn Of Africa And Sahel Regions

  • The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) has warned that children in the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions could face serious challenges in devastating numbers if urgent support will not be provided.
  • The UNICEF said drought and conflict in Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Niger, and Nigeria were driving up water insecurity, resulting in 40 million children facing high to extremely high levels of water vulnerability.
  • According to the UN agency, about 2.8 million children in the Horn of Africa and Sahel regions are already suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Around two-thirds of children affected are under the age of 5 years.
  • The organization also said that as natural water sources dried up, the knock-on effect was significant increases in the price of water. Meanwhile, the World Meteorological Organization said that climate change and extreme weather events have increased natural disasters over the past 50 years
