Sanjeev Kishore Takes Over As New DG Ordnance

  • Shri Sanjeev Kishore, a 1985 batch officer of the Indian Ordnance Factory Service (IOFS), has taken over as the Director General Ordnance (C&S) with effect from 01-10-2022 upon the superannuation of Shri M K Grag. Before taking over the charge of DGO (C &S), Shri Kishore was the Additional Director General Ordnance at the Directorate of Ordnance (Coordination & Services), Kolkata.
  • Shri Kishore has held many senior positions, including that of the first CMD of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Ltd (AVNL), one of the seven new DPSUs formed by the Government of India in 2021.  He has ensured smooth transition of Armoured group of factories from Government department to a corporation. AVNL recorded profit in its first six months of operation under his leadership.
  • Prior to the appointment of CMD, Shri Kishore was also posted as the Senior General Manager of Heavy Vehicles Factory (HVF) Avadi and General Manager of Opto Electronics Factory (OLF), Dehradun.
  • Shri Kishore has served in diverse roles and in varied technological environments. He has been awarded Santu Sahaney Memorial Shield and Ayudh Bhushan award for his meritorious services for enhancing defence production.

Rajnath Singh Inspects The Progress Of Special Campaign 2.0 On Swachhta

  • Rajnath Singh inspected the South Block premises in New Delhi on 4th October 2022, as part of monitoring the progress of Special Campaign 2.0 on Swachhta being conducted by MOD. He administered an oath on Swachhta to the officials of MOD and sanitation staff and felicitated the Swachhta veers for their commendable efforts in keeping the premises neat and tidy.
  • Raksha Mantri said that the cleanliness drive started by Mahatma Gandhi has been transformed into a nationwide movement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by taking it to every nook and corner of the country. Compared to earlier times, the cities and villages in the country are more clean today after the launch of Swachhta movement which enhanced awareness among the people.      
  • The Special Campaign 2.0 of the Ministry of Defence is being carried out from 2nd October 2022 to 31st October 2022 with emphasis on field/outstation offices under the Ministry. Special focus is on space management and enhancement of work place experience. Offices responsible for public interface and service delivery are given preference.
  • During the Special Campaign 1.0 on Swachhata, a record number of 44276 files were reviewed and 16696 files were weeded out in the Ministry of Defence. 833 outdoor cleanliness campaigns were conducted, 187790 sq. ft of space was freed and a revenue of 2.09 crore was generated from the sale of office scrap during the campaign.

Air force To Welcome 10% Females Under Agniveer Scheme, Says IAF Chief

  • IAF chief VR Chaudhari on Tuesday announced 10 per cent reservation for females under the Agniveer scheme in the Indian Air force. “We’re looking at the fleets where we can use them and grow as time comes. We will accept them in the trade and fleet with an open mind.” IAF Chief said.
  • While responding on China-bound Iranian aircraft bomb threat to ANI, he said “Disengagement has taken place in areas along the LAC. We’re keeping an eye on Chinese Air Force activities. We have increased the presence of radars & air defence networks. Appropriate non-escalators measures have been taken in time,”
  • “We will use the Indian Army hotline to communicate with the Chinese in case of any air space violation or other issues,”
  • The benchmark to say the situation on LAC is normal would be to return to status quo ante and complete withdrawal from all the points. Air force is monitoring the situation on the LAC.
  • “We’re not opposing any process of creating theater commands. We’ve certain reservations with respect to structures. We’re fully supporting the integration process and the structures should be future ready, synergise the core competencies.” IAF chief said.
  • The environment around us remains hostile and there would be a requirement for 42 squadrons of fighter aircraft by the Indian Air Force. We have to see the case of China and Pakistan also.
  • Indian air force will be looking to induct LCA Mk 1A, HTT-40 trainers, indigenous weapons & different radars. The LCH was inducted into the Air Force yesterday and soon the helicopter will add teeth to the IAF’s strike capability.

LCH Prachand To Get Its Main Weapon In 2023         

  • Indian Army and IAF  might have inducted indigenous developed Prachand aka LCH in its fleet but it still doesn’t come with its Main weapon, which is Air launched anti-tank guided missile (ATGM).
  • Defence Public Sector Undertakings HAL plans to start integration trials of the Dhruvastra helicopter-launched versions of a third-generation anti-tank guided missile by end of this year and clear it for operational usage on Prachand by mid-2023.
  • Prachand is currently armed with a 20 mm nose gun, 70 mm rockets and Mistral air-to-air missile developed by MBDA that will be later replaced by DRDO developed one in the future.

Defence Secretary Co-chairs India-UK DCG Meeting          

  • Dr Ajay Kumar co-chaired the India-UK Defence Consultative Group meeting with his counterpart Mr David Williams, UK Permanent Under Secretary of State for Defence in London on 03 October 2022.  They reviewed the progress of various Service level bilateral groups and other defence cooperation mechanisms.
  • Dr Ajay Kumar held discussion on wide range of issues relating to the defence and industrial cooperation between India and UK. Both sides considered new areas for defence industrial cooperation, explored emerging domains such as cyber and Artificial Intelligence, and committed to work together for strengthening the bilateral defence relationship.

Andaman and Nicobar Command Observes Hindi Pakhwada

  • Andaman and Nicobar Command observed Hindi Pakhwada in the month of September 2022. A number of competitions were conducted to promote awareness about the use of Hindi in official works. All the components of Andaman and Nicobar Command held various competitions during the Hindi Pakhwada.
  • A large number of personnel participated in Essay writing, Noting & Drafting, Poem recitation, Debate competition, General knowledge, Vocabulary test etc., and displayed keen interest in communicating in Hindi.
  • All four Component Commanders (Army, Navy, Air Force & Coast Guard) of Andaman and Nicobar Command encouraged their respective services to earnestly promote Hindi in day-to-day office correspondence throughout the year. Prize and Certificates were given to the winners and participants of all competitions held during the Hindi Pakhwada fortnight.

Defence Ministry Approves Renaming Of Faizabad Cantt As Ayodhya Cantt

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the proposal to change the name of Faizabad Cantt to Ayodhya Cantt.
  • Earlier on October 2021, Uttar Pradesh government following the Centre’s nod announced the renaming of Faizabad railway junction as Ayodhya Cantt. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had approved the change of name.
  • In November 2018, the UP government changed the name of Faizabad district to Ayodhya. In October of the same year, the Yogi government changed the name of Allahabad to Prayagraj.
  • Mr. Singh is currently undertaking a two-day visit to Uttarakhand.
  • He will have a; ‘Bada Khana‘ with soldiers at Dehradun on Tuesday evening.
  • On Wednesday, he will perform ‘Shastra Puja’ in Chamoli on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami.
  • He will celebrate Dussehra with soldiers at Auli and Mana and will offer prayers at Badrinath Dham.

INS Tarkash Completes Gulf Of Guinea Anti-piracy Deployment

  • Reinforcing the Indian Navy’s commitment to maritime security, INS Tarkash completed its anti-piracy deployment in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG).
  • This 41-day anti-piracy deployment is the first such deployment in GoG by the Indian Navy warship. The deployment included port calls at Dakar in Senegal, Lome in Togo, Lagos in Nigeria and Port Gentil in Gabon.
  • Recently, the ship took part in a Joint Maritime Exercise with Nigerian Navy Patrol Ships on September 12-13. The exercise provided an opportunity to strengthen interoperability between the Indian and Nigerian navies.
  • INS Tarkash is the second Talwar-class frigate constructed for the Indian Navy. She is part of the second batch of Talwar-class frigates ordered by the Indian Navy. She was built at the Yantar shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia.
