India To Host ‘No Money For Terror’ Ministerial Conference
- Dedicated to the fight against terror financing, India is slated to host a two-day ‘No Money For Terrorism’ Ministerial Conference here next week, top government sources said.
- This is the third conference of its kind being organised in Delhi on November 18-19 with ministers, diplomats and counter-terrorism experts from the member states of the Egmont Group expected to attend the meeting, a high-placed source, privy to the development.
- The third edition of the conference is being organised here by the NIA under the supervision of the MHA. The first such meeting was held in Paris (France) in 2018 and the second in Melbourne (Australia), in 2019. Nearly 65 nations participated in the 2019 conference.
- In the second edition of the conference in Melbourne, India called for a united global effort against all those who support terror or help generate finances for terror. India also pointed out how terror groups are active on social media and that undermines any ban the United Nations (UN) might have.
- The proposed points for inclusion in the resolution in the 2019 ‘No Money For Terror’ conference, mentioned terrorism as the single biggest threat to peace, security and development. In the meeting, it was decided that the actions must expedite the finalisation of a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism under the United Nations (UN).
- It was also stressed that the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards must be effectively enforced and UN listings or FATF should not be politicised.
- The upcoming conference is being organised days after India hosted a special meeting of the United Nations Security Council’s Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) in Mumbai and Delhi. India organised the CTC meeting on October 29 to discuss challenges to the global counter-terrorism architecture.

Japan Likely To Re-arm In Next Five Years To Deter China’s Rise In Asia-pacific
- In order to prevent China’s growing assertiveness in the Asia-Pacific region, Japan has now ramped up the process of building arms as the country recently signed a security pact with Australia to boost practical defence cooperation between the two nations.
- Japan is likely to re-arm up in the next five years to deter China in East Asia which is quite different from its pacifist nature. The defence partnership came right after Xi Jinping took charge as the leader of the Chinese Communist Party for the third term in a historic election after National Party Congress concluded in October.
- In the declaration that took place in October, Japanese PM Fumio Kishida and Australian PM Anthony Albanese confirmed the significance of a “free and open Indo-Pacific,” a vision advocated by late Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. Their agreement came with the concern mounting that China may intensify its military provocations against Taiwan after Chinese President Xi secured an unprecedented third term.
- After World War II, the defence policies of Japan have always been governed by pacifism, however now Japan has stepped up its efforts to build its arms and ammunition in order to counter China’s military modernisation, reported the Singapore Post.
- Currently, Beijing is rattled by Japan’s newly developed bonding with Taiwan and described it as dangerous.
- Singapore Post reported quoting Yoji Koda, a former commander of Japan’s Maritime Self-Defense Force fleet as saying that Tokyo’s trust in Beijing is vanishing due to Beijing’s rapid military build-up and its flouting of an international court ruling that rejected China’s claim over the South China Sea. Besides, tensions have also surged between Japan and China over the disputed territory known as the Senkaku Islands in Japan.
Indian Navy Ships Participate In 70th International Fleet Review In Japan
- Indian Naval ship Shivalik and Kamorta, led by Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla, participated in the 70th International Fleet Review at Yokosuka, Japan where an Indian band played Japanese martial music and Saare Jahan Se Achha.
- Earlier, Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) said that 13 countries had participated in the International Fleet Review. “We will contribute to realizing a “free and open ocean” through confidence-building and friendship with the navies of the WPNS member countries“.
- Upon completion, Indian Navy ships will participate in Exercise MALABAR 22 with ships from Australia, Japan and USA navies. Malabar’s series of maritime exercises commenced in 1992 and has grown in complexity over the years. It includes four major navies in the Indo-Pacific Region.
- Malabar-22 will witness high-tempo exercises between participating platforms in multiple domains. Complex surface, sub-surface and air operations, including live firing drills are scheduled during the exercise. The Eastern Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Sanjay Bhalla will have operational discussions with Commander, US Seventh Fleet and Commander Escort Force 3 (JMSDF) as part of Malabar-22.
IAF And FASF Chiefs Fly As Part of Ex Garuda VII
- The ongoing Ex Garuda VII between IAF and French Air and Space Force (FASF) witnessed combined flying by Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of IAF, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, and Chief of the Air Staff of FASF, Gen Stéphane Mille.
- While CAS flew a sortie in an IAF Rafale fighter, the FASF Chief flew in an IAF Su-30MKI fighter. Both participated in the exercise as part of a combined training mission which was flown from Air Force Station Jodhpur.
- He also highlighted the growing interoperability between both air forces, which has been developing with each successive edition of the exercise, a regular bilateral exercise since 2003.
- Ex Garuda VII is also the first occasion for the LCA Tejas and the recently inducted LCH Prachand to participate in any international exercise. The exercise, which is due to culminate on 12 November 22, includes four FASF Rafale fighters and one A-330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft.

- Fokker Elmo Sasmos Interconnection Systems (FE-SIL), a joint venture between Fokker Elmo and Sasmos, has been manufacturing electrical wiring interconnection systems for the aerospace industry since 2016, including wire harnesses for P-8A and P-8I, the company said.
- Sasmos Het Technologies chairman HG Chandrashekar said, “The Boeing P-8A Poseidon aircraft contract stands as a prestigious acknowledgement of Sasmos, our commitment to quality, design excellence and cutting-edge solutions, by the global aerospace and defence sector. The P-8’s performance and reliability deliver confidence in an uncertain world — in any condition, anywhere, anytime, the statement added.
