‘India Zindabad’: Pakistanis Raise Slogan

  • The Indian Navy executed a daring rescue operation in the Arabian Sea on March 29, saving 23 Pakistani nationals from Somali pirates. The rescued crew, aboard the Iranian fishing vessel Al-Kambar, expressed their gratitude towards India by chanting ‘India Zindabad.’
  • The 23-member Pakistani crew of the rescued Iranian fishing vessel, Al-Kambar, expressed their gratitude to the Indian Navy. They raised ‘India Zindabad’ slogans, thanking the Navy’s specialist team for protecting them from the nine armed pirates. Following the rescue, the crew underwent a thorough medical checkup before being cleared to continue with their fishing activities.
  • Indian Navy reiterated its commitment to ensuring maritime security in the region and the safety of all seafarers, regardless of nationality. The successful rescue operation highlights the Indian Navy’s vigilance and readiness to respond to maritime threats, safeguarding the waters of the Arabian Sea.

‘Tiger Triumph-24’ Between India and US Concludes

  • The 14-day bilateral tri-service exercise between India and the US, ‘Tiger Triumph-24’, has concluded, officials said. The exercise that began on March 18 aimed at developing interoperability for conducting HADR operations and refining standard operating procedures to enable rapid and smooth coordination between the forces of the two countries.
  • The Indian Army’s contingent comprising one battalion group took part in the second edition of the tri-service exercise in Visakhapatnam and Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, along with the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.
  • The exercise signifies the “robust strategic partnership” between the two countries and was aimed towards sharing best practices and standard operating procedures in undertaking multinational HADR operations, the statement said.
  • The harbour phase was conducted in Visakhapatnam from March 18-25. It included pre-sail discussions, subject-matter expert exchange, sports engagements, shipboarding drills and cross-deck visits.
  • The sea phase was conducted from March 26-30 and it included units of both countries undertaking maritime exercises, followed by the landing of troops at Kakinada for setting up of a joint command and control centre and a joint relief and medical camp for HADR operations, the Navy spokesperson said in a statement.

Sadanand Vasant Takes Over As NIA chief

  • Sadanand Vasant Date, who bravely fought terrorists during the 26/11 Mumbai attack, on Sunday took over the reins of the National Investigation Agency, according to an official statement. Date, a 1990 batch Indian Police Service officer of Maharashtra cadre, succeeded Dinkar Gupta, who superannuated.
  • Before joining the NIA, Date was serving as the chief of Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) in Maharashtra. He has held several important positions in Maharashtra, including those of Police Commissioner of Mira-Bhayandar Vasai-Virar, Joint Commissioner Law and order, and Joint Commissioner Crime Branch Mumbai, said the statement issued by the NIA.

METOC Seminar Meghayan 2024

  • The World Meteorological Day is commemorated every year on 23rd March. It marks the origin of World Meteorological Organization (WMO) on 23 Mar 1950 and signifies the invaluable contribution and essential role of the meteorologists in this field.
  • As part of the World Meteorological Day celebrations, a METOC (Meteorological and Oceanographic) seminar _’Meghayan-24’_ was conducted by School of Naval Oceanology & Meteorology and Indian Naval Meteorological Analysis Centre (INMAC) at Southern Naval Command on 28 Mar 24.
  • The seminar was based on the theme _*‘At the Frontline of Climate Action‘*_ as promulgated by WMO for the year 2024.

First Hovercraft Maintenance Unit of Gujrat

  • Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane visited the Indian Coast Guard facilities in the Northwest Region on March 28-29, 2024. During the visit, he inaugurated the infrastructure for the Hovercraft Maintenance Unit (HMU) at Okha.
  • The Hovercraft Maintenance Unit will help in the maintenance of the hovercrafts, which are used for surveillance purposes in 50 different islands in the Area of Responsibility. These hovercrafts are based at Okha and Jakhau and are equipped with advanced instruments and devices.
  • They are powered by diesel engines and have a range of over 100 nautical miles. The opening of the HMU will help in the timely delivery of technical support and maintenance services to the hovercrafts.
  • A hovercraft, also known as an air-cushion vehicle or ACV, is an amphibious craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud, ice, and various other surfaces. Hovercraft use blowers to produce a large volume of air below the hull, or air cushion, that is slightly above atmospheric pressure.

  • The second edition of India-Mozambique-Tanzania Trilateral Exercise concluded at Nacala, Mozambique on 28 Mar 24. The week-long exercise underscores the importance of enhanced maritime cooperation and interoperability between the Navies of India, Mozambique, and Tanzania.
  • INS Tir and Sujata participated in IMT TRILAT 24 from 21 – 28 Mar 24 through a series of joint exercises, training sessions and collaborative activities, providing invaluable opportunities for all three Navies to exchange knowledge
