Sunset for MiG 21s as Squadron Retires Fighters After 57 Years       

  • An Indian Air Force squadron that started operating MiG 21 fighter jets in 1966 has finally retired the aircraft, replacing them with Su 30MKIs that are manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
  • The IAF’s Uttarlai (Rajasthan) based 4 Squadron has been operating various types of MiG 21 for 57 years and was one of the last three remaining units operating the Bison version of the aircraft. The two remaining MiG 21 Bison squadrons are expected to phase out the fighters by 2025.

Indian Air Force activates three S-400 missile

  • With the Air Force having already operationalised three of its S-400 air defence missile squadrons along borders with China and Pakistan, Indian and Russian officials are set to meet soon to discuss the final delivery schedule for the remaining two squadrons.
  • India had signed an over Rs 35,000 crore contract with the Russian side in 2018-19 for five squadrons of the S-400 missiles of which three have already arrived in the country but delivery of the remaining two was hindered due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
  • The Russian and Indian officials would be soon meeting again to discuss the final delivery schedule of the remaining two missile squadrons, sources said.
  • The Russian side has not been very clear about the final delivery timelines as they are also busy with the conflict with Ukraine.

Indian Navy Gearing Up For Solo Circumnavigation Expedition By Woman Officer

  • While felicitating Commander Abhilash Tomy for successfully completing Golden Globe, a solo non-stop race around the world, Indian Navy chief Admiral R Hari Kumar said the next major activity will be a solo circumnavigation expedition by a woman officer.
  • The Chief of Naval Staff felicitated Cdr Tomy on the sidelines of the ongoing Goa Maritime Conclave 2023.
  • The next major activity of the Navy is a solo circumnavigation expedition by a woman officer, he said.
  • Two officers are under training and whenever they are deemed fit, they will be sent to the sea, he said.

China Says Ready To Work With Russia To Address Security Threats

  • China has said it is ready to work with Russia to actively respond to various security threats and challenges and jointly safeguard global strategic balance and stability, Chinese state media agency Xinhua reported on Wednesday.
  • The vice chairman of China’s Central Military Commission Zhang Youxia on Monday held talks with visiting Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu who is attending the 10th Beijing Xiangshan Forum.
  • Zhang said China and Russia have maintained a high-level bilateral relationship and the relations between the two militaries exhibit strong development momentum.

4th Goa Maritime Conclave Concludes

  • The interactive sessions of the fourth edition of the maritime-conclave”>Goa Maritime Conclave (GMC), an initiative of the Indian Navy, commenced on Monday with chiefs of naval forces and heads of maritime forces from 12 countries of the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) participating in the event.
  • Speaking at the event, Admiral R Hari Kumar, the Chief of the Naval Staff, talked about the GMC evolving from a small construct of Principals of Maritime Security agencies to a functional construct that deals with transnational challenges in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • Rajnath Singh, while addressing the event said that no single country should dominate others in a hegemonic manner in the Indian Ocean region while making a fresh call for a free, open and rule-based maritime order in the vast stretch.
