Exercise Garuda Shakti 2025
- The 10th edition of the India-Indonesia Joint Special Forces Exercise GARUDA SHAKTI will be conducted at the Special Forces Training School, Bakloh from 03 to 12 December 2025.
- The exercise aims to enhance interoperability and mutual understanding through Special Forces-specific operations, including counter-terrorism drills, heliborne missions, combat shooting, drone and C-UAS employment and surgical strike planning in semi-mountainous terrain, further strengthening the robust defence partnership between the two nations.
Launch of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile
- The Indian Army successfully executed a combat launch of the BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile on Monday, December 1, 2025, from a test range over the Bay of Bengal. This operation demonstrated the missile’s advanced capabilities in precision, speed, and destructive power, reinforcing its role as a crucial asset for the Army’s strategic arsenal.
- The launch operation was carried out by a BrahMos unit under the Southern Command, operating in close coordination with components of the Tri-Services Andaman and Nicobar Command.
- This joint effort highlighted the integration and operational synergy within the Indian armed forces, ensuring seamless execution under realistic combat conditions.
- Equipped with cutting-edge guidance and control systems, the BrahMos missile exhibited remarkable flight stability at supersonic speeds. The missile accurately hit its designated target, verifying its terminal precision and affirming its reliability for real-time strike missions.
- The BrahMos missile’s demonstrated precision and high-speed performance provide the Indian Army with a reliable tool to address emerging threats on modern battlefields.
First Defence Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology
- Karnataka-based start-up Neuralix AI has achieved a significant milestone by developing India’s first indigenous defence artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
- This breakthrough was showcased with the launch of the country’s first complete ‘indigenous defence AI-as-a-Service’ (ALAAS) platform, inaugurated by Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at the Chanakya Defence dialogue held at the Manik Shah Centre in Delhi.
- Neuralix AI is a deep technology company founded by Kannadigas, which developed this AI technology specifically for the Indian Army under the Ministry of Defence’s IDEX ADITY 2.0 initiative.
- This programme is a clear demonstration of the Government of India’s commitment to fostering indigenous innovation in strategic defence sectors, laying the foundation for a future-ready military equipped with advanced AI capabilities.
- By deploying an AI system developed entirely within India, the initiative aims to reduce the dependency on foreign technology for critical defence operations.
GSL Hands Over ICGS Amulya
- Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Saturday formally handed over ICGS Amulya, the third vessel in a series of eight fast patrol vessels (FPVs) constructed under India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative. This significant milestone took place at GSL’s shipyard in Vasco, Goa, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to indigenous defence capabilities.
- ICGS Amulya measures 51.43 metres in length with an 8-metre breadth and displaces 330 tonnes at a draught of 2.5 metres. It is distinctively powered by twin marine diesel engines coupled with controllable pitch propellers — a first in this class of FPVs — promising superior propulsion efficiency and performance.
- With a top speed exceeding 27 knots and an endurance of 1,500 nautical miles, the vessel is equipped to undertake extended missions. Its integrated machinery control system supports long-duration operations, ensuring sustained maritime patrol and response capabilities.
- The ship accommodates a crew complement of six officers and 35 sailors. It is designed primarily for multifaceted maritime security roles including fisheries protection, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, coastal patrols, anti-smuggling and anti-piracy efforts, as well as search-and-rescue operations.
India Fortifies Siliguri Corridor With New Military Bases
- India has fortified its Siliguri Corridor, a narrow 22-kilometre strip connecting the north-eastern states to the Indian mainland, by establishing three new military bases.
- These installations are the Lachit Borphukan Military Station near Dhubri in Assam, and forward bases at Kishanganj in Bihar and Chopra in West Bengal, each equipped with rapid deployment forces, intelligence units, and Para Special Forces.
- This strategic move significantly enhances surveillance, rapid mobilisation, and operational control, transforming the corridor from a vulnerability into a fortified asset.
- The catalyst for this military build-up is the changing political landscape in Bangladesh, where the pro-India government led by Sheikh Hasina was replaced by an interim government aligned more closely with China and Pakistan.
- Bangladesh’s plans to acquire Chinese J-10C fighters and collaborate on drone manufacturing, along with Pakistan’s offer of JF-17 Block C jets, have intensified India’s security concerns.
- The Siliguri Corridor links over 45 million people in the northeast to the rest of India; any disruption here would be catastrophic for connectivity and territorial integrity.
