Dismissed Major Moves Armed Forces Tribunal Seeking Relief       

  • An Army Major, who has been dismissed by the President using special powers, has approached the principal bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal seeking relief.
  • The Major, who faced an inquiry for alleged possession of confidential information and being in touch with a suspected foreign intelligence operative, was terminated from service on September 15, invoking section 18 of the Army Act, 1950.
  • It is believed that six more officers, including one of the rank of Brigadier, have been issued show cause notices on why administrative or disciplinary action should not be taken against them.
  • President Draupadi Murmu has terminated the services of an Indian Army Major posted with a Strategic Forces Command (SFC) unit. An Army inquiry had earlier found that the Major was involved in several lapses which comprised national security.
  • The President, exercising powers conferred by Section 18 of the Army Act, 1950, read with Article 310 of the Constitution and all other powers enabling in this behalf, ordered that the services of the Major be terminated with immediate effect.
  • These orders were issued on September 15 and promulgated earlier this month at the Strategic Forces Command Unit where the Major was posted in North India.
  • The Army investigation into the Major’s activities had been carried out since March 2022 when a Board of Officers was formed to investigate matters relating to the compromise of national security by the officer.

Indian Navy Successfully Test-fires Brahmos Missile

  • The Indian Navy on Wednesday said that it has successfully test-fired a BrahMos missile from its warship in the Bay in Bengal. The missile achieved all mission objectives, it said. In a post on X, the Navy also shared a picture of the test-firing.
  • This was the mean preparedness for operational preparedness of blue water and counter preparation of the Chinese navy. Earlier also, the navy fired an extended range of BrahMos missiles with multiple capacities and ranges.
  • R-class destroyer ship and her potent weapon, both indigenous, mark another shining symbol of ‘AatmaNirbharta’ and the Indian Navy’s firepower at sea. It fulfils all challenges from adversaries, especially the Chinese PLA NAVY.

Ex Poorvi Akash 2023

  • As part of Ex Poorvi Akash of EAC IAF, the indigenous LCH Prachand today landed at a high elevation ALG on one of its first such deployments, carrying out joint training with ground forces, alongside a variety of other combat platforms and systems participating in the exercise.
  • Eastern Air Command (EAC) of the Indian Air Force conducted its annual Command level exercise – Ex Poorvi Akash from 30 October to 5 November, said an official statement from IAF.
  • The exercise comprised the application of Air Power in all its roles and will be conducted by day and night. The exercise also comprises joint operations with Eastern Command (EC) of Indian Army in the challenging mountainous terrain, added the statement.
  • It involved activation of the entire Eastern Sector and IAF Garuds will participate in special missions along with the Special Forces (SF) of the Indian Airforce.

Biden Calls For Humanitarian Pause’ in Israel-Hamas War

  • US President Joe Biden has said that he thinks there should be a humanitarian “pause” in the Israel-Hamas war in order to get “prisoners” out. Biden was speaking at a fundraiser for his 2024 reelection campaign when a protester interrupted him, calling for a ceasefire.
  • “I think we need a pause,” Biden said in response. “A pause means give time to get the prisoners out.”
  • Israeli ground troops have advanced to Gaza City in heavy fighting with militants following Hamas’ killing of roughly 1,400 Israelis on October 7.

15th India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue

  • The 15th India-Singapore Defence Policy Dialogue was held during which both sides reviewed their existing defence cooperation and agreed to enhance collaboration in service-to-service interactions and bilateral exercises.
  • The dialogue was co-chaired by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane and Permanent Secretary (Defence), Singapore, Chan Heng Kee, the defence ministry said in a statement.
  • Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to fully implement the ‘Strategic Partnership’ based on mutual trust and understanding, common interests and shared values of democracy and rule of law, it said.
