DRDO’s SAMHO CLATGM Receives Acceptance of Necessity for Arjun Tanks

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has achieved a significant milestone with the Ministry of Defence granting Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for the procurement of the SAMHO CLATGM (Cannon Launched Anti-Tank Guided Missile). This missile has been developed specifically for deployment from the Arjun Main Battle Tank.

The system, also known as a semi-active laser-guided missile, fulfils a long-pending requirement of the Indian Army to engage armoured targets at extended ranges. It can be fired from the Arjun tank’s 120 mm rifled gun and has undergone successful trials, including tests at the KK Ranges in Ahmednagar.

Equipped with a tandem HEAT warhead capable of defeating explosive reactive armour, the missile can engage targets at ranges between 1.5 km and 5 km. Its precision, beyond-line-of-sight capability, and adaptability against multiple threats enhance the combat effectiveness of the Arjun tank fleet.

U.S. Military Operation in Venezuela Sparks Global Reaction

Former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured during a U.S. military operation in Caracas and transported to the United States, where they are set to face federal charges. According to U.S. authorities, the operation was conducted by elite Delta Force units.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States would temporarily oversee Venezuela during a transition period, emphasizing efforts to restore oil production. However, U.S. officials clarified that Washington does not intend to directly govern the country and will instead maintain economic pressure, including an oil quarantine.

The operation followed months of heightened U.S. military presence in the Caribbean, including the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier. The Cuban government condemned the action, claiming that 32 Cuban nationals were killed during the operation while serving in Venezuela.

MSA Global Wins Major Army Order for High-Altitude Equipment

Bengaluru-based MSA Global Technology & Engineering Pvt Ltd has secured a significant contract from the Indian Army to supply more than 50,000 ice axes and shovels. This order represents a major boost to indigenous manufacturing, eliminating reliance on imports for these critical tools.

Designed for snow clearance, trench digging, and climbing, the equipment will directly support operational readiness and troop safety in harsh climatic conditions.

The company’s achievement reflects sustained research and development efforts in advanced metallurgy and precision engineering, reinforcing the role of private industry in India’s defence indigenisation drive.
