Swavlamban 2.0: Defence Minister Releases 5th Positive Indigenisation List
- Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh launched the fifth positive indigenisation list of the Department of Military Affairs during the plenary session of ‘Swavlamban 2.0,’ a two-day seminar of the Naval Innovation and Indigenisation Organisation here in the national capital.
- Defence Minister released the fifth Positive Indigenisation List of DMA comprising 98 items. Highly complex systems, sensors, weapons and ammunition have been included in the list.
- All these items will be procured from indigenous sources as per provisions given in Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP) 2020 in a staggered timeline.
- He also launched 76 challenges for the industry under the 10th Defence India Start-up Challenges (DISC 10) and DISC 10 PRIME of Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) and five problem statements under iDEX for Fauji.
Eastern Army Command To Host Defence Event “East Tech 2023”
- The Eastern Command of the Indian Army is set to host a Mega Defence event “East Tech 2023” showcasing the latest in defence technology, at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, Guwahati on October 10 and 11, first such event in the state.
- It is an initiative to identify cutting-edge technologies needed for solving operational challenges in the Eastern Sector and the Indian Army as a whole. As per the official statement, the aim of the event is to facilitate Eastern Command in meeting its operational challenges by incorporating Contemporary indigenous technology.
- The two-day event cum demonstration is being carried out for the first time in the entire North East Region. It is a joint effort of the Indian Army with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Assam.
Indian Navy Develops Indigenous Navigation System, Anti-swarm Drones
- The Indian Navy has developed an indigenous navigation system and an anti-swarm drone, capable of building walls around its own warships or assets to protect them from any attack by enemy drones, said officials.
- Anti-swarm drone ammunition, Commander Indian Navy, MN Pasha said, “The speciality of this ammunition is it has 300 steel balls, on detonation, it will spread and create a wall of balls and it will destroy the drones. It is highly effective and completed lab trials.”
- These two systems actually represent the indigenization in its true sense as well as the total comprehensive integration for the Indian naval ships and submarines, added the Naval officer.
- The Dronaam counter-drone system was displayed at the Indian Navy’s Swavalamban 2023 exhibition yesterday in the national capital.
India, Tanzania Plan To Conclude Strategic Partnership
- Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan is planning a trip to India early next week as India and Tanzania aim to upgrade ties to strategic partnership.
- Defence ties with Tanzania have received a major boost in the last few years as the South East African state has shown keenness to purchase Indian military equipment and expand maritime security partnership.
- Tanzania was formed as a sovereign state in 1964 through the union of the separate states of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
- Dodoma is the official capital and Dar es Salaam is the seat of most government administrations as well as is the largest city and port in the country.
- It is located in east Africa just south of the Equator. It is bounded by Uganda, Lake Victoria and Kenya to the north, by the Indian Ocean to the east, by Mozambique, Lake Nyasa, Malawi and Zambia to the south and southwest and by Lake Tanganyika, Burundi and Rwanda to the west.
- Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres) and the world’s second deepest lake, Lake Tanganyika (1,436 metres deep) are located in Tanzania.
Sikkim Flash Floods: 6 Soldiers Among 19 Dead; 103 Missing
- At least 16 people have died, including six army personnel, in the flash floods in Sikkim in the early hours of Wednesday, the State Disaster Management Authority said.
- “19 people are dead and 103 are missing in the Sikkim flash floods,” the report stated on Thursday. The search for the missing people is now focussing on the areas downstream of Teesta River. Search and rescue efforts are continuing to locate the 16 missing soldiers in Sikkim.
- The State government has asked for three (3) extra platoons of the National Disaster Response Force, which the Central government has approved. There is one platoon of NDRF already in service in Rangpo and Singtam towns.
