Army Chief Gen Manoj Pande Reviews Progress of New Thal Sena Bhawan

  • Army Chief General Manoj Pande on Wednesday reviewed the progress of construction of new Thal Sena Bhawan in the national capital, officials said.
  • The green initiatives incorporated include the transplantation of 476 fully grown trees, the plantation of 5790 saplings, and the use of environmentally friendly energy and construction ideas. Post-construction, the Thal Sena Bhawan aims to be a net-zero building in line with the enduring Go Green initiatives of the Indian Army, they added.
  • The complex is designed to cater to the needs of 5,600 personnel, and will bring together the Indian Army Headquarters currently split in eight pockets across Delhi, including South Block, Sena Bhawan, Hutments Area, R. K. Puram, and Shankar Vihar.
  • “The complex will have a sewage treatment plant with 400 kilo litres per day capacity, and the treated water will be used for flushing and arboriculture. Similarly, for solid waste management, there will be a compost plant of 500 kg capacity per day for use in the arboriculture and the maintenance of green spaces,” one official said.

6th Edition of Indian Navy – Royal Navy Of Oman Staff Talks

  • Towards further strengthening the existing Defence relations between India and Oman in the maritime domain, 6th edition of Staff Talks between Indian Navy (IN) and Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) were conducted from 04 – 05 Jun 24 at New Delhi.
  • The delegation from RNO was led by Cmde Jasim Mohammed Ali Al Balushi, DG Ops & Plans. Cmde Manmeet Singh Khurana, Commodore (FC) led the delegation from IN. The series of Navy-to-Navy Staff Talks is testimony of the strong bilateral relations between two historical maritime neighbours.
  • During the Staff Talks, both sides deliberated on common maritime security challenges, which necessitate enhanced interoperability at sea, and also discussed issues pertaining to operational collaboration, information sharing, Maritime Domain Awareness, training, meteorology, hydrography and technical assistance.

Gaza Hospital Says 37 Dead In Strike On UN School Israel Says Used By Hamas

  • A Gaza hospital said at least 37 people were killed in an Israeli strike Thursday on a UN-run school that the Israeli military alleged housed a “Hamas compound”.
  • The raid came after US, Qatari and Egyptian mediators resumed talks aimed at securing a truce and hostage-prisoner swap in the nearly eight-month war triggered by Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel.
  • The military said it had “eliminated” several militants in a “precise strike on a Hamas compound embedded inside an UNRWA school” just before 2:00 am in the Nuseirat area of central Gaza.
  • Israel accuses Hamas and its allies in Gaza of using schools, hospitals and other civilian infrastructure including facilities run by UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, as operational centres — charges the militants deny.

Japan, US, South Korean Coast Guards Hold 1st Joint Drill

  • Japanese, US and South Korean coast guard vessels conducted their first three-way drill on Thursday off Japan’s coast as the countries strengthen their maritime ties in response to increased assertiveness by China in pressing its territorial claims.
  • Skirmishes between Chinese and Philippine coast guard vessels have escalated in the South China Sea, triggering fears that the disputes could escalate to an armed conflict between China and the United States, a longtime ally of the Philippines.
  • Thursday’s joint drill followed an agreement by the leaders of the three countries last August to enhance security cooperation to safeguard peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific.
  • Coast guards from Japan, the United States and South Korea signed an agreement last month to work together to preserve maritime resources, counter illegal fishing, conduct search and rescue operations and improve maritime law enforcement capabilities in the region.

Sudanese RSF Paramilitaries Clash With The Army, Leaving At Least 100 People Dead

  • At least 100 people were killed, and dozens were injured after the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces attacked a village in Gezira province in Sudan on Wednesday, officials said.
  • The war between the RSF and the Sudanese army has wrecked the country as clashes spread across multiple cities and pushed its population to the brink of famine. More than 14,000 people have been killed and thousands have been wounded. Hundreds of thousands have been displaced.
