Adani Defence Expands Pilot Training Capabilities
Adani Defence Systems & Technologies Ltd (ADSTL), in collaboration with Prime Aero Services LLP, has taken a significant leap in India’s aviation training ecosystem by acquiring a controlling stake in the Flight Simulation Technique Centre Pvt Ltd (FSTC).
Valued at ₹820 crore, this acquisition brings ADSTL into partnership with India’s largest independent flight training and simulation organisation. FSTC operates:
- 11 full-flight simulators
- 17 training aircraft
- Comprehensive programmes ranging from Commercial Pilot Licences (CPL) to type-rating, recurrent training, and advanced skill courses.
Accredited by both the DGCA and EASA, FSTC runs cutting-edge simulation centres in Gurugram and Hyderabad and oversees one of India’s biggest flying schools situated across Bhiwani and Narnaul in Haryana. The deal will significantly enhance India’s pilot training ecosystem amid surging aviation demand.
Col Prateek Roy Honoured with Geddes Gavel Award
Colonel Prateek Roy of the Indian Army earned the prestigious Geddes Gavel Award after completing the Defence Strategic and Studies Course at the Australian Defence College.
The award recognises the participant who demonstrates exceptional understanding of regional strategic dynamics and excels in comprehending political, diplomatic, military, cultural, and economic factors affecting decision-making. His achievement reflects India’s increasingly strong military engagement with global defence institutions.
Major Infrastructure Boost in Arunachal Pradesh
The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) marked a major milestone with the inauguration of 32 new strategic projects in Arunachal Pradesh. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh virtually launched the initiatives, which form part of a wider set of 125 infrastructure projects unveiled on the same day from Ladakh.
State Minister Kento Jini emphasised that the new infrastructure would significantly assist troops deployed along the India–China border, particularly in Shi Yomi and Upper Siang districts. Key completed works under Project Brahmank include:
- Shene Nallah Bridge (35 m) on Tato–Mechukha Road
- Ritbung, Rabung, Seyo Nallah, Sirak Nallah and Raboung Nallah bridges
- Naglung Ri Bridge (45 m) on Tuting–Bona Road
Additional projects under Vartak, Arunank, and Udayak include strategic roads and helipad infrastructure aimed at improving mobility in remote areas.
Rajnath Singh Dedicates 125 BRO Projects Across India
In a landmark event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh dedicated 125 newly completed BRO projects, valued at ₹5,000 crore, across multiple border states and Union Territories. These include:
- 28 roads
- 93 bridges
- 4 other key infrastructure works
The projects span Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Mizoram, marking the largest single-day inauguration in BRO’s history.
A highlight is the 920-metre Shyok Tunnel on the Darbuk–Shyok–Daulat Beg Oldi Road—an engineering feat that will ensure all-weather access to one of the world’s most challenging military zones. These projects are expected to accelerate troop movement, enhance logistics, encourage tourism, create jobs, and strengthen India’s border security posture.
Russia Offers Technology Transfer of Su-57 Engine to India
In a significant proposal, Russia has offered India full technology transfer and licensed production of the Izdeliye-177S engine, intended for the Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet. The upgraded engine:
- Produces up to 142 kN thrust
- Offers improved fuel efficiency
- Features stealth-enhanced thrust-vectoring nozzles
- Represents a modernised version of the AL-41F1 powerplant
ROSTEC CEO Sergei Chemezov confirmed Russia’s readiness to provide India with engines, avionics, stealth materials, and AI-enabled systems to support manufacturing at HAL facilities.
Key elements of the proposal include:
- Access to critical design data for turbine blades and hot-section components
- Production of engine modules at HAL Koraput
- Upgrades for India’s Su-30MKI fleet to the “Super Sukhoi” standard
- A customised two-seat Su-57E variant integrating Indian weapons such as Astra missiles and systems like Virupaksha AESA radars
- India’s insistence on 80%+ technology transfer including in-country testing
This potential agreement aligns with India’s long-term objective of strengthening propulsion expertise for future platforms like the AMCA Mk-2.
Project Sena Sarthi: Underground Fuel Storage in Kargil
The Indian Army has enhanced its logistics resilience in high-altitude regions with the commissioning of its first underground Fuel, Oil & Lubricant (FOL) storage facility in the Kargil sector, under Project Sena Sarthi.
The newly built storage tanks:
- Double fuel-holding capacity
- Support sustained operations in difficult terrain
- Provide safer, temperature-controlled storage
High-altitude zones such as Ladakh and the Northeast pose unique challenges, including:
- Temperatures plunging to –45°C
- Difficult terrain affecting transport and handling
- Chemical instability of fuel products at extreme altitudes
To address these issues, the DRDO has already created specialised high-altitude diesel and lubricants. Traditionally, fuel has been transported using 200-litre steel barrels that must withstand extreme temperature variations and the impact of rough terrain. The new underground system will significantly improve operational efficiency and supply chain dependability for troops operating in remote forward areas.
