India, Japan Hold Joint Military Exercise
- A joint military exercise between India and Japan was completed on Friday at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, a defence spokesperson said. The fifth joint military exercise named ‘Dharma Guardian’ between the Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defense Force was successfully conducted at Mahajan Field Firing Range on Friday.
- India’s Rajputana Rifles battalion and a group of 40 soldiers from Japan participated in the exercise, defence spokesperson Colonel Amitabh Sharma said in a statement.
- The primary objective of the exercise was to promote military cooperation and enhance capabilities to carry out joint operations in semi-urban environments under the mandate of the United Nations.
ANC Carries Out Maiden All-women Maritime Surveillance Mission
- A maiden all-women maritime surveillance mission was undertaken by the Andaman & Nicobar Command on the 40th anniversary of INAS 318 and International Women’s Day on March 08, 2024.
- The crew based at INS Utkrosh comprised Lt Cdr Shubhangi Swaroop, Lt Cdr Divya Sharma and Lt Vaishali Mishra. The occasion highlighted the crucial role played by women combatants in all the walks of the Naval Air Arm, which included pre-flight briefing, meteorological briefing, medical check-up and Air Traffic Control briefing, all of which were conducted by women officers.
- INAS 318 is the elite Naval Air squadron in the Andaman & Nicobar Command, continuously engaged in surveillance role since its commissioning on March 08, 1984. The squadron commenced its journey with the induction of Islander aircraft which were replaced by Dornier aircraft in 1999.
Joint Exercise “Sea Defenders-2024
- Marking a significant step in bolstering bilateral cooperation b/w the ICG and the United States Coast Guard, the USCG Ship Bertholf reached Port Blair on 07 Mar 2024, for joint exercise with ICG. Codenamed “Sea Defenders-2024”, the joint exercise is scheduled to take place on 09-10 Mar 2024 off the coast of Port Blair.
- The exercise will simulate scenarios relevant to maritime piracy and asymmetric threats, including simulated drone attacks on commercial merchant traffic, joint maritime search and rescue operations, major firefighting, marine pollution response, and counter-drug interdiction exercises.
Indian Army To Organize Tri-services Demonstration
- The Indian Army is going to organize a tri-services demonstration of made-in-India weapon systems and platforms in an exercise named c at Pokharan, Rajasthan on March 12.
- According to Indian Army officials, the exercise is expected to be witnessed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Army Chief General Manoj Pande.
- Meanwhile, Made in India weapon systems like the Pinaka Multi barrel rocket launchers, Arjun tanks, Dhanush howitzers, Tejas fighter aircraft, and different versions of the ALH Dhruv choppers would demonstrate their firepower during the exercise, the officials stated.
Indian Army To Launch 2 Sports Companies For Girls
- In sync with the national vision of “women empowerment” & demonstration of “Nari Shakti”, the Indian Army is raising two Army Girls Sports Companies (AGSC) in a phased manner.
- The AGSCs will be located at two Army’s Centre of Excellence nodes i.e. Army Marksmanship Unit, Mhow in Madhya Pradesh and Army Sports Institute, Pune. The AGSC will be fully functional with effect from April 2024.
- The AGSC will train young girls from all parts of the country in Shooting, Archery, Athletics, Boxing & Weightlifting.
- To identify the young talent, provide them with formal education apart from other administrative requirements & train them to be champions in their respective sporting discipline.
