IAF Role In Eastern Ladakh Has Increased Manifold: Air Commodore Handa

  • The role of Indian Air Force (IAF) has increased manifold in the Eastern Ladakh bordering China, a senior officer said and announced that the force is in the process of getting long range surveillance radar systems to keep an eye on the enemy. Air Officer Commanding of Leh-based Air Force Station Air Commodore D S Handa was talking to reporters here on the sidelines of an airshow at the base to commemorate the 91st anniversary of the IAF.
  • Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brig B D Mishra (retd) was the chief guest at the airshow which saw a static display of Rafale aircraft, Cheetal helicopters, indigenous Akash Missile System and Medium Range Surface to Air Missile.
  • “The main purpose behind the airshow was to motivate students to join the IAF and also to assure the people of Ladakh that IAF is ready to safeguard the region and the country,” Air Commodore Handa said.
  • He said the role of IAF has increased in eastern Ladakh compared to previous years.
  • “We have installed radars wherever required and the IAF is also acquiring long-range surveillance radar systems to keep an eye on the enemy,” Handa said, adding that weapon systems and radars have been deployed in forward areas at specific locations to pick up any enemy activity.
  • He said the IAF is the lifeline of Ladakh as it ensures delivery of ration, ammunition and other supplies to the troops deployed in the forward areas.

IDF Operation “Iron Swords”

  • In the early hours of the morning in Israel, an unprecedented barrage of rockets and missiles was launched from the Gaza Strip into Israel, triggering continuous sirens that persisted for hours.
  • Furthermore, a significant number of Hamas and potentially Jihad militants breached Israeli territory, engaging in confrontations with both civilians and Israeli security personnel.
  • Hamas and other terrorist groups fired between 2,000-5,000 rockets towards Israel from the blockaded Palestinian area of Gaza Strip on Saturday morning and dozens of terrorists entered southern Israeli cities, laying siege and taking control of several key locations, including a police station.
  • The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) has officially confirmed that numerous terrorists infiltrated Israeli territory on this, amidst the intense rocket attacks spanning from the central to the southern regions.
  • Galant has declared a state of emergency in the country, extending to the Gush Dan area, and has announced that Israel is actively preparing for an extended period of conflict, necessitating the extensive mobilization of reserves to assume critical positions.

Israel Air Force Destroys Hq Linked With Senior Hamas Naval Force

  • In a retaliatory move against the Hamas attack in Israel, the Israel Air Force on Monday attacked various buildings where the leaders of terrorist organization Hamas were staying, along with several operational headquarters.
  • According to the Israel Air Force, the air force also attacked a headquarters spread over an area of three floors and a headquarters associated with the senior Hamas naval force, Muhammad Kashta.
  • The death toll in Israel since Hamas began its attack has surpassed 700 people, according to officials, The Times of Israel reported citing Hebrew media outlets.
  • Among the dead, dozens of soldiers and police were killed in the attack.

US To Send Military Ships, Aircraft Closer To Israel                                           

  • Hamas fighters rampaged through Israeli towns as the country suffered its bloodiest day in decades on Saturday. Israel battered Palestinians with air strikes in Gaza on Sunday, with hundreds reportedly killed on both sides. The spiraling violence threatens to start a major new war in the Middle East.
  • Austin in a statement said he ordered the moving of the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group to the Eastern Mediterranean closer to Israel. The force includes the carrier, a guided missile cruiser and four guided missile destroyers.
  • Austin also said the United States had also taken steps to augment U.S. Air Force F-35, F-15, F-16, and A-10 fighter aircraft squadrons in the region. He said the United States would also provide munitions to Israel.

Dassault Aviation CEO Visiting India              

  • Various aspects of India’s proposed purchase of 26 naval variant of the Rafale aircraft are likely to be discussed during a two-day visit to New Delhi by Eric Trappier, the chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, the maker of the jet, people familiar with the matter said on Sunday. Trappier arrives in Delhi on Monday to hold negotiations on the procurement, they said.
  • In July, the defence ministry approved the purchase of the Rafale (marine) jets from France, primarily for deployment on board the indigenously-built aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant.
  • The defence ministry in July said the procurement of the jets along with associated ancillary equipment, including weapon systems and spares, would be based on an inter-governmental agreement (IGA) and that the price and other terms of the purchase will be negotiated with the French government after taking into account all relevant aspects.

23rd Raising Day of A&NC

  • On 8 October A&NC celebrated its 23rd raising day. Mere patrolling is not enough to ensure maritime security of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and capability development across the spectrum is required to combat “invisible enemies” in the region, Air Marshal Saju Balakrishnan, Commander-in-Chief, A&NC (CINCAN), has said.
  • Around 30 per cent of India’s exclusive economic zone falls in this vast region, Balakrishnan said. CINCAN is the chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC), the only tri-service theatre command of the ministry of defence, based at Port Blair.

Rajnath Singh Set To Visit Italy, France To Bolster Defence Ties

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to visit Italy and France from October 09 to 12. During the first leg of his two-nation visit, he is scheduled to meet Italian Defence Minister Guido Crisetto in Rome, a Ministry of Defence release stated Sunday.
  • The relationship between India and Italy was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in March 2023 during the visit of the Italian Prime Minister to India.
  • During the second and final leg, Rajnath Singh will conduct the 5th Annual Defence Dialogue with his counterpart, French Minister of Armed Forces Sebastian Lecornu in Paris, the release said.
