Successful Launch of Agni-4 Ballistic Missile

  • A successful launch of an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, Agni-4, was carried out from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha on September 06, 2024.
  • The launch successfully validated all operational and technical parameters. It was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command.
  • Agni-IV is the fourth in the Agni series of missiles which was earlier known as Agni II prime. It has been developed by India’s DRDO and displayed a number of new technologies and significant improvement in missile technology.
  • Launch platform: 8 × 8 transporter erector launcher/Rail Mobile Launcher
  • Length: 20 metres (66 ft)
  • Operational range: 4,000 km

5th India-Maldives Defence Cooperation Dialogue

  • 5th Defence Cooperation Dialogue between India and the Maldives took place in New Delhi on September 06, 2024. The Indian delegation was led by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane, while the Maldivian delegation was headed by Chief of Defence Force, MNDF General lbrahim Hilmy.
  • The meeting provided both sides with an opportunity to discuss the matters related to bilateral defence cooperation. This, inter alia, included expediting the implementation of various ongoing defence cooperation projects.
  • The two sides also deliberated on few other areas of common interest such as high-level exchanges and capability development projects. The aspects of participation in forthcoming bilateral military exercise were also discussed.
  • The entire range of talks were productive which will advance shared interests of both the nations in near future and bring stability & prosperity in the Indian Ocean Region.

Naval Exercise Varuna 2024

  • Indian Navy’s frontline stealth frigate, INS Tabar commanded by Captain MR Harish had recently visited Toulon, France from 29 Aug 24 to 01 Sep 24 and later upon departure participated in the 22nd edition of IN – FN Bilateral Exercise VARUNA from 02 – 04 Sep 24 in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • The bilateral exercise VARUNA which began in 2001 is the backbone of IN- FN relationship and has evolved significantly over the years towards enhancing interoperability and exchange Best Practices.

World War II Veteran Turns 100

  • Lance Naik Charan Singh (retd), a World War II veteran who served the Army for 17 years and received the prestigious Burma Star Award has turned 100. The Army celebrated his centennial birthday on Saturday at his home in Himachal Pradesh, marking a century of extraordinary life and service.
  • Born on September 7, 1924, Singh’s journey with the Army began on August 26, 1942, at Firozepur Cantonment, when he got enrolled in the Indian Army, a senior official said on Sunday.His distinguished military career saw him serve with the Army Service Corps during the World War II. His service took him from Singapore to Lahore and eventually to Yol Cantonment in Himachal Pradesh, he said.
  • “We must remember that our veterans are yesterday’s soldiers, who have not just served the nation but have set standards of dedication and sacrifice for all soldiers and citizens alike,” the Army said.

Nibe Limited Announces Setting Up India’s First Earth Observation Satellite

  • Nibe Space Pvt. Ltd. (NSPL), a subsidiary of Nibe Limited, a pioneering name in manufacturing critical systems for the defence sector, announced its ambitious vision to establish India’s first multi-sensor, all-weather, high-revisit Earth Observation Satellite Constellation at an event in Mumbai.
  • With an aim to strengthen India’s self-reliance in the strategically crucial defence-space sector, NSPL signed MoUs/agreements for a consortium of key Indian and global partners, including Larsen and Toubro, CENTUM, AgniKul, Skyroot, SpaceFields, SISIR, CYRAN, and Thales Alenia Space (as Technology Partner), through this landmark initiative.
  • This constellation will offer high-resolution imagery, GSD <= 50 cms, high revisit times, and an end-to-end turnkey solution for national defence and strategic interests. NSPL will offer this constellation to the end user on a leased or user-definable exploitation model.
