  • An official from the MEA will lead the delegation to the Iranian capital to meet his counterpart. Talks among other issues will focus on boosting Chabahar Port operations as well as the International North-South Transport Corridor, according to people familiar with the development.
  • The India-Iran bilateral will be followed by India-Iran-Armenia trilateral, a format that has been developed over the past few years to work towards connectivity between India and Armenia via Iran.
  • During the phone call, the two sides discussed the expansion of economic cooperation, security and defence ties between the two countries, as well as the development of the Chabahar Port project, according to a readout by Iran.

GRSE Inks Pact With Merlinhawk Aerospace

  • GRSE Limited, a leading Defence PSU and one of India’s premier warship builders, has signed a teaming agreement with Bengaluru-based Merlinhawk Aerospace Pvt Ltd to indigenously develop and manufacture composite doors and hatches for the Indian Navy’s warships.
  • This strategic partnership is designed to create a fully integrated framework covering the engineering, design, testing, fabrication, and installation of advanced composite-based access systems for naval vessels.
  • These components, which include watertight and weathertight doors and hatches along with their locking mechanisms and associated hardware, are critical for the safety, durability, and operational efficiency of warships.
  • Merlinhawk’s expertise in cutting-edge aerospace materials and engineering, coupled with GRSE’s longstanding track record of delivering complex warship platforms for the Indian Navy, makes this partnership a natural fit for India’s defence ecosystem.

India’s Next Indigenous Aircraft Carrier Likely To Be Nuclear Powered

  • India’s defence establishment has put forward a major long-term roadmap that underscores its ambition to field a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier as the centrepiece of maritime expansion in the coming decade and a half.
  • The proposed vessel, which would succeed the indigenously designed and built INS Vikrant, marks the next leap in India’s carrier program by moving from conventional propulsion to nuclear power.
  • According to the roadmap, nuclear propulsion technology would not only be used for this carrier but also extended to a planned fleet of up to ten major nuclear-powered ships, signalling a significant strategic threshold in India’s naval modernisation drive.

Lieutenant Parul Dhadwal

  • In a significant development for the Indian Armed Forces, Lieutenant Parul Dhadwal was commissioned into the Indian Army Ordnance Corps on September 6, 2025, marking a historic milestone as the first woman from a five-generation military family to wear the olive greens.
  • Her commissioning not only showcases a remarkable family legacy but also represents a shift towards inclusivity within the armed forces. The Dhadwal family boasts a long narrative of service in the Indian Army, beginning with Lt Dhadwal’s great-great-grandfather, Subedar Harnam Singh, who served in the 74 Punjabis from 1896 to 1924. This legacy flourished as her great-grandfather, Major L.S. Dhadwal, served with the 3rd Battalion, Jat Regiment, during the pivotal times surrounding India’s independence.
  • The third generation included Colonel Daljit Singh Dhadwal of 7 Jammu and Kashmir Rifles and Brigadier Jagat Jamwal of 3 KUMAON. The tradition continues with her father, Major General KS Dhadwal, SM, Vishisht Seva Medal, and her brother, Captain Dhananjay Dhadwal, both serving in 20 SIKH.
  • This rare instance of three serving officers from two generations of the same family underlines their enduring commitment to the nation.

Tariffs on Oil-Buyers Will Lead To Russian Economy Collapse: US Treasury Chief

  • US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Sunday called for the Trump administration and Europe to exert additional economic pressure on Russia, saying it could force President Vladimir Putin to go ahead with peace talks with Ukraine.
  • Bessent, who recently called India and China “bad actors” over their continued purchase of Russian oil, accusing them of supporting its war in Ukraine, called for more sanctions and secondary tariffs on countries doing trade with Moscow.”If the US and the (European Union) can come in, do more sanctions, secondary tariffs on the countries that buy Russian oil, the Russian economy will be in full collapse, and that will bring President Putin to the table,” news agency Reuters quoted Bessent as saying on NBC’s Meet the Press.
  • Bessent said the Trump administration was “prepared to increase pressure on Russia”.
  • While India has been subjected to steep 50 per cent tariffs by the US for buying Russian crude, China was slapped with a staggering 145 per cent levy, but that was put on hold for 90 days.
  • However, India called out the West’s hypocrisy, saying several European countries too buy large amounts of Russian energy, but they have escaped similar treatment.
  • “We need our European partners to follow us, because if the US and the EU do this together, we are in a race now between how long can the Ukrainian military hold up versus how long can the Russian economy hold up?” Bessent added.
  • While the geopolitics around the war continues behind the scenes, the Ukraine-Russia conflict dramatically escalated on Sunday as Russian forces struck government buildings housing Ukraine’s cabinet in central Kyiv, setting off fires and killing at least three people.
