197 Officers Pass Out From Officers Training Academy                         

  • As many as 197 officers including 161 Gentleman Cadets and 36 Women Cadets were commissioned into various arms and services of the Indian Army, following their successful completion of 11-month training at the OTA in Chennai.
  • Four Gentleman Cadets and eight Women Cadets from friendly foreign countries, too, completed the training.
  • The parade was reviewed by General Manoj Pande, Chief of Army Staff, who presented the Sword of Honour to BUO Nakka Naveen, OTA gold medal to ACA Sudeep Kumar Sahu, silver medal to BCA Dushyant Singh Shekhawat and the bronze medal to AUO Jyoti Bisht.
  • Veer Nari gallery, displaying photographs and life stories of the brave women, was inaugurated by Archana Pandey, President Army Wives Welfare Association at the OTA Museum. Some of these Veer Naris who are wives of army men who sacrificed their lives for the nation, chose to pursue a career in the army.
  • OTA Chennai trains the selected Veer Naris just like any other Women Cadet of the academy and they pass out as army officers to serve the nation.

Myanmar Receives First Shipment Of Russia’s Su-30 Fighter Jets      

  • Myanmar has received the first shipment of two Russian Su-30 fighter jets, Charlie Than, Myanmar’s trade minister, told the Russian RIA state news agency in remarks published. Russia and Myanmar signed a contract in September 2022 for the delivery of six Su-30SME fighter jets, RIA said.
  • Russian TASS state news agency that a number of bilateral agreements will be signed at the East Economic Forum, including on developing tourism between the two countries.
  • Eastern Economic Forum is an international forum held each year in Vladivostok, Russia, for the purpose of encouraging foreign investment in the Russian Far East. It is held each year since 2015 in September, at the Far Eastern Federal University in Vladivostok, Russia.

Multi Activity Display marks culmination of training at OTA                                     

  • A combined display of training proficiency was organised at Officers Training Academy, Chennai on Friday as a prelude to the Passing Out Parade of Gentlemen and Women Cadets. Lieutenant General Sanjeev Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, Commandant, Officers Training Academy, was the Chief Guest.
  • Parents of cadets of the Passing Out Course and other special invitees witnessed the event. The show commenced with an Equestrian Display by cadets and Riding Instructors of the Horse Riding Club of the Academy, displaying dexterous and breathtaking manoeuvres and garnered thunderous applause, an official release said.
  • Finally, the event was set ablaze by Kalaripayathu, a martial art form of Kerala’s Malabar region. The event concluded with the Chief Guest presenting mementoes to the participants and appreciating their skills OTA Chentar continues to attract the best talent of the youth in the service of the Nation.

PM Modi, President Biden welcome jet engine agreement between GE Aerospace-HAL             

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Joe Biden welcomed the completion of the notification process regarding negotiations for a commercial agreement between GE Aerospace and Hindustan Aeronautical Limited, the White House said in a statement.
  • The two leaders also reiterated the importance of nuclear energy as a necessary resource to meet climate, energy transition, and energy security needs of  both the nations.
  • The two leaders also reaffirmed their commitment to deepen and diversify the India-US Major Defence Partnership through expanded cooperation in new and emerging domains such as space and AI, and accelerated defence industrial collaboration.
  • PM Modi and President Biden welcomed intensified consultations between the relevant entities on both sides to expand opportunities for facilitating India-US collaboration in nuclear energy, including in development of next generation small modular reactor technologies in a collaborative mode.

G20: Security agencies deploy Optical Target Locator to protect delegates    

  • As part of the stringent security measures for the G20 summit, the security agencies have deployed an Optical Target locator made by the DRDO at the summit venue in Pragati Maidan to help in sanitizing VIP areas by detecting Snipers.
  • The device, which has been developed by the DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation), can also detect and locate commonly used active and passive surveillance devices, DRDO officials said.
  • Night Vision Device or electronic sensors as in Laser Range Finder, during day and night operations in urban scenarios. The Long Range Optical Target Locater has an operational range of the order of 1500m in day/ night operations, according to the DRDO.
  • Meanwhile, the local police and BSF jawans are keeping a vigil on the Yamuna River by patrolling it on boats in Delhi’s Shahdara district.
