400 Scientists Worked 24×7 During Op Sindoor: ISRO

  • More than 400 scientists worked round-the-clock to provide support using earth observation and communication satellites during Operation Sindoor, ISRO chairperson V Narayanan said.
  • The space agency provided satellite data from its spacecraft for national security requirements, Narayanan said in his address at the 52nd National Management Convention of the All India Management Association (AIMA).
  • According to Narayanan, ISRO has completed 7,700 ground tests under the Gaganyaan project that plans to achieve India’s maiden human spaceflight by 2027. Besides, 2,300 more tests are planned under the project before carrying out the human spaceflight.
  • Under the Gaganyaan project, ISRO plans to carry out three uncrewed missions, the first expected in December this year. This will be followed by two more unmanned missions.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tasked ISRO with setting up India’s own space station by 2035 and landing an Indian astronaut on the moon by 2040.

At SCO-RATS Meet in Kyrgyzstan, India calls to hold Accountable

  • India took a strong stance against terrorism at the 44th meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) in Kyrgyzstan.
  • Deputy National Security Adviser TV Ravichandran emphasised the need to hold accountable the “sponsors, organisers, and financiers” behind the brutal Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley on April 22, 2025.
  • In his address at the council, Ravichandran appealed to hold accountable the sponsors, organisers and financiers of the inexcusable Pahalgam terror attack. NSA also stated that we must shun double standards and resolve to fight terrorism in all forms and manifestations, according to government sources.
  • Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently participated in the 25th SCO Summit in Tianjin, where he brought attention to the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack and urged the group to hold countries that perpetrate and support cross-border terrorism accountable.

HAL Receives Third GE-404 Engine for the LCA

  • Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received the third GE-404 engine for the LCA Mark-1A fighter jet programme from the US, ANI reported citing defence officials, adding that the fourth engine is expected to arrive in India by the end of this month.
  • The public sector company is expected to receive 12 GE-404 engines by the end of this financial year. The Indian Air Force has placed orders for 83 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets and a proposal to buy 97 more of these planes is at an advance stage.
  • India signed a $716 million agreement with General Electric in 2021 to procure 99 F404-IN20 engines. Delivery was affected due to supply chain disruptions, including the failure of a South Korean component supplier. As a result, the schedule was pushed back to March 2025.
  • The Indian Air Force plans to induct a total of 352 Tejas aircraft, combining both Mk1A and Mk2 variants. HAL is on track to meet its delivery targets for this year. The defence firm expects engine supplies to stabilise in the next financial year. Full-scale production is projected to touch 30 aircraft per year by 2026–27, with support from both public and private industry partners.
