US Approves a $686 Million Support Package for Pakistan’s F-16 Fleet

The United States has cleared a major defence support package valued at $686 million for Pakistan. This deal aims to enhance the operational readiness of Pakistan’s F-16 combat aircraft, a key component of its air defence system.

The package includes $37 million worth of core defence equipment, with the remaining $649 million allocated for advanced systems and upgrades. These additions comprise identification systems, secure communications equipment, navigation tools, mission-planning systems, software upgrades, missile adaptor units, and various electronic security modules.

The contract also covers 92 Link-16 data link systems and six Mk-82 inert 500-lb general-purpose bombs, intended for training and integration purposes. This upgrade is designed to ensure the sustained combat capability of Pakistan’s Block-52 and Mid-Life Upgrade (MLU) variants of the F-16, enabling the fleet to meet present and future national security demands.

ISRO Advances with Third Launch Pad at Kulasekarapattinam Spaceport

India’s space programme is set for a major expansion with the development of a new launch facility at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu. The government has confirmed that the spaceport is expected to become operational during the 2026–27 fiscal year, marking a major step forward in India’s small-satellite launch capability.

Most of the land acquisition is complete, except for a section required to reroute the East-Coast Road. Meanwhile, construction of key technical infrastructure and specialised equipment is progressing simultaneously at multiple work centres, ensuring coordinated completion timelines.

The project carries a total cost of ₹985.96 crore, of which ₹389.58 crore had been spent by July 2025. The remaining funds will cover final construction phases, specialised facility installation, and commissioning processes. Once operational, the spaceport will significantly enhance ISRO’s ability to support both governmental and commercial satellite launch operations.

India, France, and UAE Begin Trilateral Air Exercise over the Arabian Sea

In a significant display of multilateral defence cooperation, India, France, and the United Arab Emirates have launched a major air combat exercise over the Arabian Sea. The drills focus on strengthening operational synergy across the Indian Ocean and the wider Indo-Pacific region, areas of increasing strategic relevance.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has deployed frontline aircraft—including Sukhoi-30MKI and Jaguar fighter jets—supported by IL-78 aerial refuelling tankers and AEW&C systems to enhance long-range operations and situational awareness. These aircraft are operating from the strategically located airbases at Jamnagar and Naliya in Gujarat.

France and the UAE have joined the exercise with their Rafale and Mirage fighter jets, operating from Al Dhafra Air Base, a central location for UAE and allied air operations. This trilateral engagement reflects growing cooperation among the three nations to safeguard shared interests across key maritime zones.

Indian Navy Set to Commission First Indigenous Diving Support Craft ‘DSC A20’

The Indian Navy is preparing to induct DSC A20, the first vessel in a new series of indigenously developed Diving Support Craft (DSC). The commissioning ceremony is scheduled for 16 December 2025 at Kochi under the Southern Naval Command.

Built by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) in Kolkata, DSC A20 is the lead ship in a fleet of five. Designed specifically for diving and underwater operations in coastal regions, the vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art diving systems adhering to the highest safety and performance standards.

Its catamaran hull design enhances stability, increases deck space, and provides superior seakeeping ability. With a displacement of approximately 390 tons, the craft represents a successful collaboration among the Indian Navy, domestic shipbuilders, and national research organisations.

Once commissioned, DSC A20 will significantly boost India’s underwater inspection, salvage, diving support, and coastal mission capabilities, reinforcing the Navy’s operational strength along the western coast.
