  • On The Back Of A Successful Tenure From 2019-2024, Shri Rajnath Singh Has Been Allocated The Portfolio Of Ministry Of Defence For The Second Consecutive Term By The President, As Advised By The Prime Minister. A Member Of Parliament From Lucknow, UP, Shri Rajnath Singh Had Taken Over Responsibility To Head Ministry Of Defence For The First Time On June 01, 2019. He Was Minister Of Education In Govt Of Uttar Pradesh In 1991 – 1992.
  • He Served As Minister Of Surface Transport In The Union Cabinet From 1999 To 2000. Later He Became Chief Minister Of Uttar Pradesh In 2000 – 2002. In 2003, He Served As Minister Of Agriculture In The Union Cabinet. He Was Elected To Rajya Sabha For Two Terms In 1994 – 1999 And Again For 2003-2008. In 2009 He Was Elected To The 15th Lok Sabha.

Chief of the Army Staff Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi

  • The Government has appointed Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi, PVSM, AVSM, presently serving as Vice Chief of the Army Staff, as the next Chief of the Army Staff with effect from the afternoon of June 30, 2024. The present Chief of the Army Staff Gen Manoj C Pande, PVSM, AVSM, VSM demits office on June 30, 2024. Born on July 01, 1964, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi was commissioned into the Infantry (Jammu & Kashmir Rifles) of the Indian Army on December 15, 1984. During his long and distinguished service spanning nearly 40 years, he has served in a variety of Command, Staff, Instructional and Foreign appointments.
  • The Command appointments of Lt Gen Dwivedi include Command of Regiment (18 Jammu & Kashmir Rifles), Brigade (26 Sector Assam Rifles), Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East) and 9 Corps. n the rank of Lt Gen, the officer has tenanted important appointments including that of Director General Infantry and General Officer Commanding in Chief (Headquarter Northern Command) from 2022-2024, before getting appointed as the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.
  • An alumnus of the Sainik School Rewa, National Defence College and US Army War College, Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has also undergone courses at the DSSC Wellington and Army War College, Mhow. In addition, the officer was conferred ‘Distinguished Fellow’ in the coveted NDC equivalent course at USAWC, Carlisle, USA. The officer has an M Phil in Defence & Management Studies and two master’s degrees in strategic studies and military science.
  • He has been decorated with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and three GOC-in-C Commendation Cards.

BRICS Foreign Ministers Call For Ensuring Zero Tolerance For Terrorism

Foreign Ministers of the 10-member BRICS grouping of countries have expressed strong condemnation of any acts of terrorism, terming it “criminal and unjustifiable” regardless of its motivation and affirmed their commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, including cross-border terrorism and terrorism financing and safe havens.

For the first time, India, though at a multilateral format, has strongly criticised Israel for its actions in Gaza that have led to the displacement, deaths and casualties of thousands of civilians.

The Brics foreign ministers, in a joint statement issued after their meeting in Russia on Monday, expressed “grave concern at the deterioration of the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, in particular the unprecedented escalation of violence in the Gaza Strip as a result of the Israeli military operation that led to mass civilian displacement, deaths and casualties, and destruction of civilian infrastructure.”

Adani Def & Aero, EDGE Group Sign Agreement

  • Adani Defence & Aerospace and a leading group in the UAE have signed a cooperation agreement aiming to establish a “global platform” leveraging capabilities of both companies to bring together their respective product portfolios and cater to the requirements of global and local customers.
  • The agreement will also explore establishment of research and development facilities in India and the UAE, said the statement issued on Tuesday.

Sub-Lt Anamika Rajeev is Navy’s first woman helicopter pilot

  • After IAF and Army, Indian Navy has also begun inducting women as helicopter pilots, with sub-lieutenant Anamika B Rajeev becoming the first to get the “golden wings” at the passing-out parade at naval air station INS Rajali in Tamil Nadu’s Arakkonam.
  • In another milestone, Lieutenant Jamyang Tsewang, the first officer from Ladakh to be commissioned into the Navy, also successfully graduated as a qualified helicopter pilot.
  • The two were among the 21 pilots of the 102nd helicopter conversion course to be awarded the “golden wings” by Eastern Naval Command chief vice admiral Rajesh Pendharkar at the parade on Friday.
  • The naval pilots underwent the 22-week training programme at INS Rajali after initial training with IAF. While the Navy already has women pilots flying the Dornier-228 maritime patrol aircraft, Sub-Lt Rajeev is the first to gain entry into the force’s helicopter fleet that includes Chetaks, Sea Kings, Dhruvs and the spanking new submarine-hunting MH-60R Seahawk helicopters, which are armed with Hellfire missiles, MK-54 torpedoes and precision-kill rockets.
