France, India, Russia, UK Issue Travel Warnings Over Israel-Iran Tensions
- Countries including France, India, Russia, Poland and the United Kingdom have warned their citizens against travelling to Israel, the occupied Palestinian territories and, in some cases, the wider region amid threats of an Iranian attack in response to a strike this month on its consulate in Damascus.
- Iran has threatened reprisals against Israel over the strike in the Syrian capital on April 1, which killed seven Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps members, including two generals, leading to fears of an escalation of violence in the Middle East.
- India’s statement covered Iran and Israel, calling on Indians not to go to the two countries until further notice in view of the “prevailing situation in the region”.
China Helping Russia Expand Its Defence Base Amid Ukraine Conflict
- Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, China is helping Russia ramp up its defence industrial base at such a large scale that Moscow is now undertaking its most ambitious expansion in military manufacturing since the Soviet era, CNN reported, citing senior Biden administration officials.
- One of the official claimed that the Chinese and Russian entitles have also been working jointly to produce drones inside of Russia.
- The support from China is having a significant impact on Russia’s ability to continue its assault on Ukraine, while Ukraine’s military has been plagued with equipment and weapon shortages. The challenge for Ukraine is exacerbated by Republicans in the US Congress continuing to block a vote on a new American military aid package to Kyiv.
- As a demonstration of this deepening China-Russia partnership: in 2023, 90 per cent of Russia’s micro-electronics imports came from China, which Russia has used to produce missiles, tanks, and aircraft, a second official said.
Security situation in Myanmar remains “precarious”, “deteriorating,” says MEA
- Amid the ongoing fighting in the Rakhine state and other areas, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday that Indian embassy is “actively monitoring” the security situation in Myanmar that remains “precarious and deteriorating” and has issued advisory warning Indians on safety protocols.
- Underlining that an advisory was issued sometime back for Indian nationals so that they can take due care, the official spokesperson of MEA, Randhir Jaiswal said, “The security situation in Myanmar remains precarious and deteriorating – you heard about the fighting that is going on in the Rakhine state and other areas.”
- He also said that India Embassy has relocated staff from Sittwe Consulate to Yangon.
- “We have relocated our Embassy staff from Sittwe to Yangon. (Indian) Consulate in Mandalay remains functional,” Jaiswal said.
IAF Conducts Daring Airlift Operation To Save Army Jawan’s Hand
- An Indian Army jawan, who severed his hand while operating machinery at a forward unit location in Ladakh, was saved from a successful and timely airlift operation by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
- The jawan was able to save his ‘hand’ following a successful surgery carried out by a team of medical personnel in the national capital and is now on the path to recovery.
- “An Indian Army personnel severed his hand while operating a machine, at a unit located in the forward area. Given a window of 6 to 8 hrs for emergency surgery to save his appendage, an IAF C-130J aircraft was launched within an hour to move the Jawan for surgery at the R&R hospital in Delhi,” the IAF said.
HAL Bags Biggest-ever Indigenous Military Hardware Order
- In the largest ever order for indigenous military hardware placed by the Indian govt, a Rs 65,000 crore tender has been issued by the Defence ministry to HAL for made-in-India 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets.
- LCA Mark 1A is the advanced version of Tejas aircraft.
- According to news agency ANI, the tender was issued by recently and HAL has been given three months to respond to it.
- The LCA Mark 1A boasts of more advanced avionics and radars than the initial 40 LCAs that the IAF will get. According to official statements, local content in the new LCA Mark 1As will be more than 65 percent.
