IAF’s New Nyoma Airbase Becomes Operational

India has officially inaugurated its newest and one of the highest airbases at Nyoma in Ladakh, marking a major milestone in the nation’s border infrastructure. Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh landed a C-130J Super Hercules transport aircraft on the newly built runway, symbolizing the operational readiness of the base.

Situated just 35 km from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, the Mudh-Nyoma Air Force Station is located at an altitude of 13,700 feet, making it one of the highest fighter-operational airfields in the world. The project, executed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), converted a modest airstrip—previously used for transport operations—into a full-fledged base capable of supporting high-tempo fighter jet missions.

The foundation stone for the base was laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in September 2023, and the project was completed in a little over two years at an estimated cost of ₹200 crore. Officials highlighted that this new base will substantially strengthen India’s air power and surveillance capabilities along the northern borders. The defence minister had earlier described the project as a “game-changer” for India’s armed forces, especially in light of the 2020 border tensions with China in eastern Ladakh.

Cabinet Declares Red Fort Car Explosion a Terrorist Incident

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially classified the November 10 car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort as a “terrorist incident.” The resolution directs investigating agencies to pursue the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism.” This marks the first formal acknowledgment by the government that the blast, which occurred near the Red Fort metro station, was an act of terrorism.

Turkey’s Link to the Delhi Blast Under Investigation

New findings from ongoing investigations into the November 10 Red Fort explosion have revealed international links. Initial intelligence reports suggest that the attack was orchestrated by a Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) module seeking revenge for the damage inflicted on its Bahawalpur headquarters during India’s Operation Sindoor.

Investigators have identified the involvement of two doctors from Pulwama—Dr. Umar Un Nabi, suspected to have driven the IED-laden car, and Dr. Muzammil Shakeel Ganaie, who has been arrested. Both individuals reportedly traveled to Turkey for planning the attack and were allegedly in contact with handlers based there.

Additionally, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) recently arrested Farhan Nabi Siddiqui, co-founder of Istanbul International, for spreading extremist propaganda and receiving over ₹11 crore in hawala transactions. His Turkish associate, Nasi Torba, remains absconding.

IAF Conducts ‘Maha Gajraj’ Exercise in Rajasthan

The Indian Air Force conducted a major operational drill, ‘Exercise Maha Gajraj,’ in Barmer, Rajasthan, highlighting its tactical readiness and ability to adapt in dynamic combat environments.

A key highlight of the exercise was the successful emergency landing of a fighter jet on the Bharatmala Highway—demonstrating India’s capability to use civilian infrastructure for military operations. Conducted under the South Western Air Command, the drill focused on testing rapid response and highway-based air operations in situations where traditional airbases may be unavailable.

This exercise underscores the IAF’s growing emphasis on flexibility, innovation, and preparedness to counter modern warfare challenges across varied terrains.
