Commissioning Of INS Tarmugli
- The Indian Navy will be inducting a Fast Attack Craft, INS Tarmugli on 14 Dec 23 in a ceremonial commissioning ceremony at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam. The ship has a unique distinction of having served under the flag of two nations with three names during her distinguished service till date.
- Commissioned in the Indian Navy as INS Tillanchang, a Trinkat Class ship, she was in active service till 2006, and thereafter gifted to the Maldives National Defence Force by the Govt of India, as part of diplomatic outreach in the IOR.
- The ship was commissioned into MNDF as MCGS Huravee on 16 April 2006, and served there till its decommissioning in May 2023. The ship was returned to the Indian Navy, which also provided an in-service Waterjet Fast Attack Craft, INS Tarmugli, to MNDF as the new MCGS Huravee.
- The ship has undergone extensive repair and upgradation by the Indian Navy at Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam, over the last six months, and is scheduled to be commissioned as ‘INS Tarmugli’ on 14 Dec 2023 at Visakhapatnam.
‘Mission Antarctica’ carried out by a team of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute
- Raksha Rajya Mantri Shri Ajay Bhatt flagged-in, in New Delhi on December 13, 2023, a team of Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Darjeeling that carried out ‘Mission Antarctica’. The expedition, which commenced in 2021, was undertaken by a team of three trekkers, led by Group Captain Jai Kishan.
- The team hoisted the National Flag, measuring 7,500 sq ft and weighing 75 kilograms across the length and breadth of the country, including atop Mt Rhenock in Sikkim Himalayas at an altitude of 16,500 feet. It was recorded as the biggest Indian National Flag hoisted atop a mountain in the Asia Book of Records and India Book of Records.

MDL Submits Bid For Over Rs 20,000 Crore Project To Build 3 New Kalvari Class Submarines
- In a significant development, the state-owned Mazagon Dockyards Limited has submitted its response to the Defence Ministry tender for building three new Kalvari class submarines for the Indian Navy.
- Senior defence sources told that the bids by the PSU have been received by the Defence Ministry for the mega project, which will be built indigenously in Mumbai in partnership with the French firm Naval Group.
- India has already inducted five of the six Kalvari class also known as the Scorpene class submarines it ordered in 2005 from France and the sixth one is likely to be inducted next year.
- The MDL has already constructed six Scorpene submarines, five of which are already in service. The sixth one is likely to be commissioned in early 2024. The Indian Navy’s fifth stealth Scorpene class submarine, INS Vagir, was commissioned into the Indian Navy in January this year.
Pakistan Terror Attack Which Killed 23 Soldiers
- Peshawar, Over 100 kg of explosives were used in the deadliest terror attack this year on Pakistani security forces in the country in which 23 soldiers were killed, an official said here on Wednesday.
- Six terrorists linked to Tehrik-e-Jihad Pakistan rammed an explosive-laden truck into the security post in Dera Ismail Khan in the South Waziristan tribal district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
- According to Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) SP Asif Mehmud, over 100 kg of explosives were used in the terror attack. Twenty-three soldiers were killed and 30 others were injured in the massive attack.
- TJP, a newly formed militant group that is an affiliate of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, no arrest has been made so far. All the six terrorists were “sent to hell”.
Parliament Security Breach
- The main conspirator in Wednesday’s Parliament security breach is someone else, as per the initial investigation, police sources said on Thursday. According to sources, the accused had conducted a recce outside the parliament beforehand.
- “Everyone met in Mysore about one and a half years ago. Sagar came from Lucknow in July but could not enter the Parliament House. On December 10, one by one, everyone reached Delhi from their respective states. They gathered near India Gate, where colored crackers were distributed to everyone,” sources stated.
- The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) also ordered an inquiry into a Parliament security breach incident on Wednesday. “On request from Lok Sabha Secretariat, MHA has ordered an enquiry of parliament security breach incident. An Enquiry Committee has been set up under Anish Dayal Singh, DG, CRPF, with members from other security agencies and experts,” the Home Ministry said.
