Gaza Peace Summit 2025
The Gaza Peace Summit 2025, popularly referred to as the Sharm El Sheikh Summit, took place on October 13, 2025, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. This high-level diplomatic conference aimed to push forward peace efforts following the Gaza conflict that erupted in 2023. The event was co-chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, with participation from nearly 30 countries and several major international organizations, including the United Nations, European Union, and the Arab League. However, representatives from Israel and Hamas—the key parties to the conflict—were notably absent.

The primary objectives of the summit were to implement the initial phase of the Gaza peace plan, focusing on ending violence, managing Gaza’s future governance, improving security, and facilitating humanitarian relief. The summit followed a ceasefire agreement that took effect on October 10, 2025, mediated by the U.S. and Egypt after months of fighting. One of the major outcomes was a joint peace declaration signed by leaders from Egypt, the U.S., Qatar, and Turkey, addressing key issues such as Hamas disarmament, Israeli troop withdrawal, and a $53 billion reconstruction fund for Gaza.

The meeting also saw humanitarian progress, including the exchange of hostages and prisoners between Israel and Hamas. Despite its symbolic significance, experts noted that the absence of the main conflicting sides underscored the fragility of the peace process. Nevertheless, the Sharm El Sheikh Summit marked a major international step toward ending the Gaza conflict and restoring stability and cooperation in the Middle East.

MoD Utilises Over 50% of Total FY 2025–26 Capital Outlay
By the end of September 2025, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) had utilized over 51% of its capital outlay for the financial year 2025–26, amounting to ₹92,211.44 crore out of the ₹1,80,000 crore allocated. This reflects consistent progress toward strengthening India’s defence infrastructure and ensuring the timely delivery of key platforms such as aircraft, ships, submarines, and weapon systems.

In the previous fiscal year (2024–25), the MoD had fully utilized its capital budget of ₹1,59,768.40 crore. For FY 2025–26, ₹1,11,544.83 crore has been earmarked specifically for procurement from domestic defence industries, supporting the government’s push for self-reliance and indigenous defence production under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Afghanistan Rejects Pakistan’s Peace Proposal
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan took a downturn as Kabul denied visas to Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, ISI chief Asim Malik, and two senior military officials—marking the third rejection within a week. The decision came amid escalating border tensions.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump offered to mediate between the two nations, expressing his willingness to help restore peace in the region. According to the Taliban government’s spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid, the clashes have resulted in the deaths of 58 Pakistani soldiers and injuries to around 30 others. The situation underscores the continuing instability along the Afghanistan–Pakistan frontier.

UK and Ukraine Launch LYRA Defence Program
In a strategic effort to enhance military innovation, the United Kingdom and Ukraine have launched the LYRA Program, a bilateral defence initiative designed to strengthen technological collaboration and combat readiness. The program aims to leverage the industrial and scientific expertise of both nations to develop modern defence systems.

A joint working group has been established to oversee multiple projects, with the first being Project OCTOPUS, focused on the co-development of an advanced interceptor drone for air defence. The LYRA initiative expands upon earlier agreements related to technology transfer and joint production of military equipment, symbolizing deepening UK–Ukraine defence ties in the face of evolving regional threats.

India Awards Zen Technologies $444,000 Contract
The Government of India has awarded Zen Technologies Limited a defence contract worth approximately ₹37 million ($444,000) for the supply of advanced anti-drone systems. These systems employ an integrated network of sensors, electronic warfare mechanisms, and kinetic interceptors to counter unmanned aerial threats effectively.

The project, set to be completed within 12 months, is expected to enhance India’s capacity to tackle UAV-based threats, including surveillance, smuggling, and asymmetric warfare. In addition, the Indian Army is acquiring six AK-630 air defence guns from Advanced Weapons and Equipment India to improve protection along sensitive border areas, particularly those previously affected by hostilities with Pakistan.
