Ex-Indian Army Colonel With UN Killed in Gaza

  • A former Indian Army colonel, who had taken premature retirement from service two years ago, was killed in an attack on a United Nations vehicle near Rafah in Gaza on Monday, becoming the first international UN casualty of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
  • Colonel Kale, 46, died in the attack which took place when he was travelling to the European Hospital in Rafah in a United Nations vehicle. A staff member of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (DSS), he is survived by his wife and two daughters.
  • Another DSS staffer, who was with Kale, was injured in the incident. After retiring from the Army in 2022, Kale joined the UNDSS as a Security Coordination Officer two months ago and reached Gaza about a month ago.
  • The United Nations has called for a full investigation while Israel has ordered a separate investigation into the attack.

Alert Against Incidents of ‘Blackmail’ and ‘Digital Arrest’

  • A large number of complaints are being reported on National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal regarding intimidation, blackmail, extortion and “Digital Arrests” by cyber criminals posing as Police Authorities, CBI, Narcotics Department, RBI, ED and other Law Enforcement Agencies.
  • These fraudsters typically call a potential victim and inform that the victim has sent or is the intended recipient of a parcel, which contains illegal goods, drugs, fake passports or any other contraband item. Sometimes, they also inform that a near or dear one of the victim has been found to be involved in a crime or an accident and is in their custody.
  • I4C has also blocked more than 1,000 Skype IDs involved in such activities, in collaboration with Microsoft. It is also facilitating blocking of SIM cards, Mobile devices and Mule accounts used by such fraudsters. I4C has also issued various alerts through infographics and videos on its social media platform ‘Cyberdost’ for e.g. X, Facebook, Instagram and others.

MDL Celebrates 250th Foundation Day

  • Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL) is celebrating its 250th Foundation Day on May 14, 2024. To mark the day, a series of events were organised in Mumbai, presided over by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane.
  • These included the inauguration of adjacent land acquired from Mumbai Port Authority (MPA); launch of a prototype of indigenous midget submarine; commissioning of Solar Electric Hybrid boat & Fuel Cell Electric Ferry; release of MDL’s Commemorative Coin; and a day-long technical seminar.

This cutting-edge technology, developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, heralds a new era in tactical operations and promises to revolutionize soldier safety and bolster the nation’s security apparatus.
  • Sirin Hexadrones made by Ikran Aerospace and Technologies Pvt Ltd were put through their paces alongside newly inducted weapons during integrated small arms firing, witnessed by the esteemed General Officer Commanding Vajra Corps of the Western Command, Indian Army.
  • Powered by environmentally friendly EV electric propulsion, the Hexa drone operates quietly and efficiently. It also features a substantial payload capacity, enhancing its versatility for uses ranging from aerial photography and surveillance to industrial inspections.

IAF Tests BHISHM Portable Hospital For Airdrop In Agra

  • The IAF on Tuesday tested BHISHM portable cubes at Agra for airdrops from the aircraft. This is the first time the Indian Air Force tested this portable hospital. This test was performed so that the portable hospital can be deployed to cater to emergencies anywhere.
  • BHISHM portable cubes are a part of the broader initiative named “Project BHISHM” – Bharat Health Initiative for Sahyog, Hita and Maitri, which is tailored to treat up to 200 casualties, emphasising rapid response and comprehensive care.
  • The whole unit contains 72 easily transportable components that can be conveniently carried by hand, cycle, or even drone, providing unmatched flexibility. In the face of mass casualty incidents (MCIs), where requirements range from basic aid to advanced medical and surgical care, the Aid Cube stands out with its ability to be deployed within an astonishing 12 minutes.
