Accidental Blast in Nowgam Police Station
- Nine people were killed and several others were injured in a powerful accidental explosion at the Nowgam police station on the outskirts of Srinagar.
- According to officials, the blast occurred while a police and forensic team was examining explosive material seized from Faridabad, part of the 2,900 kg chemical cache recovered from an arrested doctor in the case.
- At least 27 people — including 24 police personnel and three civilians — were injured, many of whom are undergoing treatment in Srinagar hospitals for burn injuries and blast trauma. Officials said the explosion is linked to the same chain of events that led to the unravelling of a major terror module.
- J&K DGP said this was the accidental blast during checking of that explosive inn the Station in which officials and civilians were killed and injured. Enquiry has been setup.
- The explosive material being examined had been transported from Faridabad, Haryana. It was part of the cache seized during the investigation into the white-collar terror module. The seized explosives, had exposed a “white-collar terror module” linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind operating across Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
IdeaForge Secures ₹100 Crore Indian Army Contract
City-based drone manufacturer ideaForge Technology Ltd has received a major supply order worth nearly ₹100 crore from the Indian Army.
The order includes two of its latest unmanned aerial systems — the Zolt next-generation tactical UAV and the SWITCH 2 all-terrain VTOL drone.
- The emergency procurement of the Zolt is valued at around ₹75 crore. This UAV cleared rigorous evaluation trials, including electronic warfare tests and strict origin verification.
- The SWITCH 2, already in operational use for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance) missions, accounts for the remaining ₹30 crore.
- Both platforms were showcased earlier this year at the Aero India event in Bengaluru.
- Zolt is designed as a multi-role long-range ISR and precision payload delivery drone, emphasizing autonomy and operational resilience.
China Begins Sea Trials of EMALS-Equipped Type 076 Ship
China has commenced the maiden sea trials of Sichuan, its advanced Type 076 amphibious assault ship. The vessel is equipped with the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) — a technology previously used only by the U.S. Navy on the USS Gerald R. Ford.
Key features of the Sichuan include:
- Full-load displacement of over 40,000 tonnes
- A dual-island superstructure and full-length flight deck
- Electromagnetic catapult and arresting gear
- Capability to operate fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned systems
This trial comes shortly after the commissioning of China’s third aircraft carrier, Fujian, and highlights China’s rapidly growing naval shipbuilding pace. The country now operates three functioning aircraft carriers — Liaoning, Shandong, and Fujian — and is developing new carrier-based aircraft like the J-15T, J-35, and KJ-600.
Indian Army Deploys High-Altitude Mono Rail System in Arunachal Pradesh
In a major step towards strengthening logistics in remote border regions, the Gajraj Corps has successfully deployed an indigenous mono rail system at an altitude of 16,000 feet in the Kameng Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh.
- The system is designed to overcome the extreme challenges posed by rugged terrain, heavy snowfall, and unpredictable weather.
- It can transport over 300 kg of supplies in a single run, ensuring continuous support to forward posts that often remain cut off.
- This innovation marks a breakthrough in high-altitude military logistics and boosts operational readiness.
DRDO Unveils New Generation Man-Portable Underwater Vehicles
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed a new class of Man-Portable Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (MP-AUVs) intended for underwater surveillance and mine detection.
The DRDO’s Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), based in Visakhapatnam, has designed these systems with the following features:
- Multiple compact AUV units
- Side-scan sonar and underwater cameras for real-time detection
- Deep-learning powered recognition algorithms for accurate classification
- Reduced operator workload and mission time due to autonomous operation
These underwater systems significantly enhance India’s capability in maritime security and mine countermeasure operations.
