IAF Successfully tests DRDO’s Military Combat Parachute System
- The Indian Air Force successfully tested the Military Combat Parachute System (MCPS) in a combat freefall jump from an altitude of 32,000 feet.
- The parachute, indigenously developed by DRDO, is the only system currently in operational use by the Indian armed forces capable of deployment above 25,000 feet.
- The MCPS was developed by DRDO laboratories – Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment, Agra and Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory, Bengaluru.
- It features several advanced tactical features like a lower rate of descent and superior steering capabilities, enabling paratroopers to safely exit aircraft, deploy parachutes at predetermined altitudes, navigate accurately, and land at designated zones.
- Further, the system has compatibility with Navigation with Indian Constellation, providing the freedom of use against any adversary of our choice and is not susceptible to interference/denial of service by outside parties/nations, the statement said.
MoD Approves Rs 659.47 Crore SIG 716 Upgrade
- The MoD signed a contract worth Rs 659.47 crore on 15 October 2025 for the procurement of Night Sight (Image Intensifier) devices for the Indian Army’s 7.62 x 51mm SIG 716 Assault Rifles, along with essential accessories.
- The newly procured night sights will allow soldiers to fully exploit the longer effective range of the SIG 716 rifles, enhancing operational efficiency during low-light and night operations.
- The Night Sight systems being acquired under this deal are capable of engaging targets up to 500 metres, even in starlight conditions. This represents a substantial improvement over the existing Passive Night Sights (PNS) currently in service.
- As per the MoD release, this procurement has been classified as a Buy (Indian-IDDM) case, ensuring more than 51% indigenous content, making it a significant step towards Aatmanirbharta in Defence Manufacturing.
- Soldiers will benefit from:
- Enhanced operational efficiency during night-time and low-light missions

- Ability to exploit the extended effective range of the SIG 716 assault rifles
- Support for domestic defence industries, fostering innovation and technological development
