Indian Army’s Sapta Shakti Command Conducts Large-Scale Exercise
The Indian Army’s Sapta Shakti Command recently carried out a major operational exercise at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan’s Thar Desert. Led by the Ranbankura Division, the drill was designed to assess combat readiness and refine tactical procedures in realistic battlefield scenarios.
The exercise emphasised inter-arms coordination, improved command-and-control mechanisms, and the effective use of intelligence assets. Special attention was given to integrating drone platforms for surveillance, targeting, and operational support. Troops also validated logistics, communications, and overall battle plans, demonstrating high adaptability to evolving challenges.
Successful Flight Tests of the B61-12 Nuclear Gravity Bomb
The United States completed multiple stockpile flight tests of the upgraded B61-12 nuclear gravity bomb using the stealth F-35A fighter jet. Conducted between August 19 and 21 at Nevada’s Tonopah Test Range, these trials confirmed the performance of the aircraft, aircrew, and weapon under operational conditions.
The B61-12 is a modernised version of the B61 bomb, which has been in service since 1968. This upgraded variant offers enhanced accuracy and is expected to remain operational for at least two more decades. The tests, supported by the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration and Sandia National Laboratories, marked the only B61-12 flight evaluations using joint test assemblies on the F-35 platform this year.
Indian Army and IAF to Induct 16 Indigenous Drone Interception Systems
With increasing drone threats from hostile forces, the Indian Army and Indian Air Force are set to procure 16 Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (Mark-II) developed by the DRDO. These systems feature a powerful 10-kilowatt laser capable of neutralising enemy drones at distances up to 2 km—double the capability of the earlier variant.
India is also progressing on long-range laser-based directed energy solutions. DRDO has tested systems capable of engaging aerial targets up to 5 km away using a 30-kilowatt laser. This year, India also demonstrated its first successful interception of fixed-wing aircraft, missiles, and swarm drones using high-energy laser technology, marking a major step towards futuristic battlefield capabilities.
ASW Shallow-Water Craft ‘Mahe’ Set for Commissioning
The Indian Navy will induct ‘Mahe’, the first of its class anti-submarine warfare shallow-water craft, on November 24. Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited with over 80% indigenous components, the vessel represents India’s growing shipbuilding expertise.
Equipped with torpedoes, advanced radars, multi-functional ASW rockets, and sophisticated sonar systems, Mahe is designed for coastal defence and submarine detection. Named after the historic port town Mahe in Puducherry, the ship’s crest features an Urumi—symbolising agility, precision, and maritime heritage.
Exercise Ajeya Warrior: India–UK Joint Counter-Terror Training
The 8th edition of Exercise Ajeya Warrior between the Indian Army and the British Army is underway at the Mahajan Field Firing Ranges from November 17 to 30. The bilateral drill focuses on joint counter-terror operations in semi-urban terrain under Chapter VII of the UN mandate.
The exercise underlines the shared commitment of both nations to global peace and security. It aims to strengthen interoperability, trust, and cooperation between the two armies. The Ministry of Defence also highlighted the Eastern Command’s Exercise Poorvi Prachand Prahar, which validated new integrated capabilities involving the IAF, Navy, ITBP, and other agencies.
