Rolls-Royce Partners with Bharat Forge to Source Pearl 10X Engine Parts
- British aerospace and defence company Rolls-Royce signed an agreement with Bharat Forge to manufacture and supply fan blades for its Pearl 700 and Pearl 10X engine.
- The contract was signed at Rolls-Royce’s Dahlewitz facility near Berlin under its commitment towards building in-country capabilities to double its supply chain sourcing from India by 2030.
- “This expanded partnership with Rolls-Royce reflects our shared commitment to engineering excellence and long-term collaboration. We are proud to support the Pearl engine family, which represents the future of high-performance aviation,” Amit Kalyani, Vice Chairman and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Forge Ltd. said.
- The Pearl 10X is the latest and most powerful member of the Pearl engine family, which is powering some of the largest, fastest and longest-range business jets available across the world.
- The engine features the Advance2 engine core, which is the most efficient core available across the business aviation sector. It is combined with a high-performance low-pressure system, resulting in a superior thrust of more than 18,000lb.

Cochin Shipyard to Launch Three Vessels
- Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), a public-sector shipbuilder, will launch three technologically advanced vessels, including an Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC) for the Indian Navy.
- The other vessels to be launched are the Hybrid Electric Methanol-Ready Commissioning Service Operation Vessel (CSOV) and India’s largest Trailer Suction Hopper Dredger, DCI Dredge Godavari.
- The ASW SWC for the Navy is the sixth vessel built under an eight-ship contract signed in April 2019. The 78-metre-long, 896-tonne craft can achieve speeds up to 25 knots and is equipped with advanced underwater sensors, lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets, and mine-laying capability, the CSL said.
- The vessel can also conduct low-intensity maritime operations, coordinated ASW missions with aircraft, and search and rescue operations in coastal waters. HAL’s Nashik MiG-Sukhoi Plant to Build LCA Tejas
- HAL announced that the first LCA Mark 1A fighter aircraft for the Indian Air Force, produced by the facility at Nagpur, is scheduled to fly on Friday in the presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
- HAL said that it had created a third assembly line for LCA Mark 1A. The facility also has the second production line for HTT-40 basic trainer aircraft and has been licensed to produce the Su-30MKI and MiG series fighter jets in the past.
- On August 19, the central government had approved the purchase of 97 LCA Mark 1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force at a cost of Rs 62,000 crore. This was the second major order for the Mark 1A jets. The first, placed a few years ago, was for 83 aircraft worth around Rs 48,000 crore. With the new order, the total number of LCA Mark 1A jets for the Air Force now stands at 180.
- The LCA Mark 1A features advanced avionics and radar systems, offering a significant upgrade over the initial 40 LCAs supplied to the Air Force. Defence sources said that more than 65% of components in the new aircraft are of indigenous origin, highlighting India’s growing self-reliance in aerospace technology.
Chief of staff of Yemen Houthi Rebel’s Military Dies
- An Israeli airstrike targeting the top leaders of Yemen’s Houthi rebels in August killed the chief of staff of its military, officials said Thursday, further escalating tensions between the group and Israel even as a ceasefire holds in the Gaza Strip.
- The Houthis have acknowledged the killing of Maj. Gen. Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari, who had been sanctioned by the United Nations over his role in the country’s decadelong war.Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said al-Ghamari died of wounds he suffered in the attack and had joined “his fellow members of the axis of evil in the depths of hell.”
- Katz referred to the strike as “the strike of the firstborn,” likely a reference to a series of strikes Israel conducted on Aug. 28. That attack killed Houthi Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahawi and others. However, analysts suggested al-Ghamari may have been wounded in a different attack targeting the secretive group. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also acknowledged Israel killing al-Ghamari.
- “Another chief of staff in the line of terror chiefs who aimed to harm us was eliminated,” Netanyahu said. “We will reach all of them.”
