International Conference-cum-Exhibition on ‘Aerospace & Aviation in 2047’

  • The Aeronautical Society of India is organising an International Conference-cum-Exhibition on ‘Aerospace & Aviation in 2047’ at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre in New Delhi on November 18 & 19, 2023. President Smt Droupadi Murmu, the Chief Guest of the event, will inaugurate the Conference-cum-Exhibition.
  • This conference-cum-exhibition is being organised to commemorate 75 years of excellence of the AeSI. The inaugural session of the event will include the release of Compendium on 75 years of aerospace & aviation journey in India as well as Vision Document 2047.
  • The conference will consist of technical sessions with speakers from Safran, Rolls Royes, Lockheed Martin, MIT USA, Cranefield UK along with prominent Scientist/Technologist/Service officers from the Indian side. The event will also feature a start-up challenge that spans the length and breadth of the country. The finalists will present their innovative ideas and products, along with their vision for India’s aerospace growth by 2047. Many other events are also planned to engage with the youth.

Raksha Mantri Holds Talks With Minister Of Defence Of Timor-Leste In Jakarta

  • On the second and final day of his engagements in Indonesia, Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, on November 17, 2023, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Defence of Timor-Leste Rear Admiral Prof Dr Donaciano Do Rosario Da Costa Gomes in Jakarta.
  • During the meeting, the Raksha Mantri assured India’s continued support for the development needs of Timor-Leste, particularly in the defence sector.
  • The two Ministers discussed potential areas for future collaboration including supply of Made-in-India defence equipment, capacity building and training.
  • The Timorese counterpart welcomed India’s decision to open an Embassy in Timor-Leste and offered his Ministry’s support. He also thanked Raksha Mantri for India’s support to Timor-Leste’s efforts for becoming a full member of ASEAN.
  • On November 16, 2023, Raksha Mantri attended the 10th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM)-Plus in Jakarta.

Voice of Global South Summit: Leaders Expressed Concern Over Israel-Hamas Conflict

  • Foreign Affairs Secretary Vinay Kwatra said on Friday that the issue of Gaza was raised during the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit and leaders underlined ongoing conflict in three aspects, ‘terrorism’, ‘humanitarian crisis’ and the loss of ‘civilian lives’.
  • Kwatra also shared that the leaders also strongly raised the issue of the debt burden laid on the countries for the climate crisis or for energy transitions. He said that it does not impose a debt burden on the structural parameters of the country’s economy.
  • PM Modi inaugurated a global centre for excellence for the Global South countries called DAKSHIN and said that the Global South has, for the first time, a voice on the global stage. He also called for 5 ‘Cs’ for the Global South: consultation, cooperation, communication, creativity and capacity building.
  • The summit will be structured into 10 sessions and the inaugural and concluding sessions will be at the head of state/government level, and hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The theme of the inaugural leaders’ session is ‘Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust’ and that of the concluding leaders’ session is ‘Global South: Together for One Future’.
  • In addition, there will be eight ministerial sessions with the following themes: foreign ministers’ session on ‘India & the Global South: Emerging Together for a Better Future’; education ministers’ session on ‘Making Human Resources Future Ready’; finance ministers’ session on ‘Financing People-Centric Development’; and the environment ministers’ session on ‘Sustainable Solutions for Climate Resilience and Climate Finance’.

Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue Concludes

  • The three-day long Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue 2023 (IPRD-2023) concluded today in New Delhi. This annual apex-level regional strategic dialogue of the Indian Navy, conducted from 15 to 17 November 2023, engaged globally renowned experts from India and abroad.
  • The second professional session of the day on the theme “Maintaining a Rules-based, Safe, and Secure Indo-Pacific” included a Special Address by Smt Meenakashi Lekhi, Hon’ble Minister of State, Ministry of External Affairs and Minister of State for Culture.
  • The IPRD-2023 was organised by the National Maritime Foundation (NMF), New Delhi, as the Indian Navy’s knowledge partner.

“We Are Looking To Send More Assistance”: MEA

  • As Israel continues to retaliate by attacking the Hamas terror group in Gaza, India is planning to send more humanitarian assistance to the affected civilians in the region.
  • Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that India has always focused on avoiding civilian casualties.
  • Earlier, India had sent 38 tonnes of humanitarian relief material for civilians in the Gaza Strip.
  • Furthermore, the MEA spokesperson stressed, “We are looking to send more assistance.”
  • The humanitarian aid sent by India to the people of Palestine arrived in Egypt on October 22, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
