INS Sandhayak Visits Port Klang
- Indian Navy’s indigenously designed and constructed Survey Vessel Large (SVL) INS Sandhayak made her maiden port call at Port Klang, Malaysia, for hydrographic cooperation, from 16 – 19 Jul 2025.

Italy And France Compete To Supply Heavy Weight Torpedoes
- The Indian Navy’s critical requirement for 48 submarine-launched heavy weight torpedoes has evolved into a fascinating strategic competition between Italy’s Black Shark and France’s F21 torpedo systems, with both nations vying to equip India’s advanced Kalvari-class submarines.
- This tender, expected to be finalised soon, represents more than just a weapons acquisition—it symbolizes India’s complex defence procurement dynamics and the evolving geopolitical relationships in the Indo-Pacific region.
- The competition has taken an unexpected turn with Germany’s ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) with explanation withdrawing from the race in April 2025, leaving the Italian Black Shark as the frontrunner against France’s Naval Group F21 torpedo.
RRP Defence And CYGR Joint Venture
- RRP Defence, an Indian defence technology firm, has entered into a strategic partnership with French company CYGR to establish a state-of-the-art drone manufacturing facility in Navi Mumbai.
- The alliance will begin with an initial investment of USD 50 million (approximately ₹430 crore), with plans to scale up the capital outlay to USD 100 million as operations expand.
- Boosting aerospace exports: With a contract already lined up for global defence exports valued at over USD 20 million, hundreds of units are expected to be produced annually for both domestic and international markets.
Lakshadweep Govt Plans To Takeover Bitra Island For Defence Needs
- The government of Lakshadweep is set to take over Bitra island, an atoll in the Union Terrirtory, to make use of it for defence purposes. However, the move has been met with resistance with local MP Hamdullah Sayeed vowing to raise the issue in Parliament.
- A government notification, issued on July 11, outlined the proposal for Lakshadweep’s Department of Revenue to take over the entire land area of Bitra island and transfer it to relevant Central defense and strategic agencies.
- With 271 residents, as per the Census 2011, Bitra is the least populated among the 10 inhabited islands in the Lakshadweep UT.
- With this move, Bitra would become the third island in the archipelago with a defence establishment – two Indian naval bases in the archipelago are INS Dweeprakshak in Kavaratti, the capital of the UT, and INS Jatayu in Minicoy, the southernmost island.
Russia Launches New Barrage of Drones
