Indian Navy To Celebrate International Day of Yoga On Warships
- The 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY 25) will be celebrated imbibing the theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” on the morning of June 21 on-board warships at sea and in harbour including ships in foreign waters/ ports, as well as in naval stations across the country.
- As part of IDY celebrations, Common Yoga Protocol sessions are being conducted at various locations – onboard ships in harbour and at sea, beaches, parade grounds, aircraft hangars, parks, etc.
- The naval community is participating in ‘Yoga Maha Kumbh‘ activities and utilising the Namaste Yoga app and virtual yoga sessions by the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
- The Prime Minister recalled India’s initiative at the United Nations in 2014 to declare June 21 as International Yoga Day, a move that received wide global support in record time.
UK Navy’s F-35 Fighter Jet Develops Hydraulic Failure
- The British Royal Navy F-35B fighter jet, which had made an emergency landing at Thiruvananthapuram airport, has developed a hydraulic failure, and possibly, it would be taken back in a military transport aircraft.
- According to the officials, a bigger maintenance team is expected to come to recover the aircraft and if required, the aircraft may even be taken back in a military transport aircraft.
- “A maintenance team of the UK Navy had come and tried to rectify the problem but could not. A bigger maintenance team is expected to come to recover the aircraft. If required, the aircraft may even be taken back in a military transport aircraft,” they added.
- The aircraft was operating from UK Aircraft Carrier, HMS Prince of Wales, it was undertaking routine flying outside Indian ADIZ with Thiruvananthapuram earmarked as the emergency recovery airfield.
Steel Cutting of 4th Fleet Support Ship For Indian Navy
- ‘Steel Cutting’ ceremony of fourth of the five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) was held at Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) on 19 Jun 2025, in presence of Adm Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff as the Chief Guest.
- The Indian Navy had signed a contract with HSL for acquisition of five Fleet Support Ships (FSS) in Aug 2023, with delivery commencing mid-2027.On induction, the FSS will bolster the ‘Blue Water’ capabilities of the Indian Navy through replenishment of Fleet ships at sea.
- The ships, with a displacement of more than 40,000 tons, will deliver fuel, water, ammunition and stores enabling prolonged deployments of the Fleet Ships, thereby enhancing the Fleet’s strategic reach and mobility.
Rajnath Singh likely to visit China next week for SCO meet
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is likely to travel to China next week to attend a conclave of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
- It will be the first visit to China by a senior Indian minister after the ties came under severe strain following the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh that began in May 2020.
- The SCO defence ministers’ conclave is scheduled to be held in Qingdao from June 25 to 27. It is learnt that Singh may hold a bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Admiral Dong Jun, on the sidelines of the SCO conclave.
- Origins: The SCO originated from the “Shanghai Five,” formed in 1996, consisting of China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan.
- It was created to address concerns about extremist religious groups and ethnic tensions following the dissolution of the USSR in 1991.
- Establishment: SCO was established on 15th June 2001, in Shanghai, adding Uzbekistan as a sixth member.
- Before the inclusion of Belarus, it had nine members: India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
- Afghanistan and Mongolia hold Observer Status.
Project Dhvani
- DRDO is quietly but decisively progressing on one of its most advanced missile programs yet: Project Dhvani, a next-generation Hypersonic Glide Vehicle (HGV) aimed at reshaping India’s strategic deterrence and long-range strike capabilities.
- This HGV, projected for induction by 2029–2030, is being developed as part of India’s expanding hypersonic weapons portfolio, positioning the country alongside the US, China, and Russia in this elite technology domain.
- DRDO is reportedly aiming for ICBM-class range, potentially exceeding 5,500 km or more, although official numbers remain classified. This would place Dhvani in the same category as Russia’s Avangard and China’s DF-ZF, both of which are nuclear-capable and known for their maneuverability at hypersonic speeds (Mach 5+).
- One of Dhvani’s most critical components is its heat protection system (HPS), capable of enduring temperatures of 2,000–3,000°C encountered during hypersonic flight and atmospheric reentry.
