Indian Navy To Induct Traditionally Built ‘Ancient Stitched Ship’

  • Indian Navy will induct and unveil the name of the Ancient Stitched Ship during a ceremonial event on 21 May 2025 at Naval Base, Karwar.
  • The stitched ship is a recreation of a 5th century CE ship, inspired by a painting from the Ajanta Caves. The project was formally initiated through a tripartite agreement signed in Jul 2023 between the Ministry of Culture, the Indian Navy, and M/s Hodi Innovations, with funding from the Ministry of Culture.
  • Post induction, the project will enter its second important phase, where the Indian Navy will undertake the ambitious challenge of sailing this vessel along traditional maritime trade routes, reviving the spirit of ancient Indian seafaring. Preparations for the vessel’s maiden transoceanic voyage from Gujarat to Oman are already underway.

8th Meeting of The India – Us Joint Working Group

  • The 8th meeting of the India-US Joint Working Group on Aircraft Carrier Technology Cooperation constituted under the auspices of the India – US Defence Technology and Trade Initiative was organised in India from 13 to 16 May 2025.
  • A six-member US delegation headed by RAdm Casey Moton, Programme Executive Officer (PEO), Aircraft Carriers visited various defence establishments in Delhi and Goa.
  • Both sides appreciated the remarkable work undertaken by the Joint Working Group towards valuable information exchange on Aircraft Carriers. Plans for future co-operation under various aspects of Aircraft Carrier Technology were discussed and a Joint Statement was also released.
  • At Goa, professional interactions were undertaken with Indian Navy’s Aviation Specialists on Aircraft Carrier operations and technical aspects.
  • The meeting marked yet another significant milestone in the ongoing co-operation between the two countries in the field of Aircraft Carrier Technology.

  • India’s next-generation indigenous Remote-Controlled Weapon Stations (RCWS) for the Army and Navy, developed by Zen Technologies in partnership with AI Turing Technologies, represent a significant leap in the modernization and self-reliance of the country’s defence sector.
  • Unveiled in late 2024 and showcased at Aero India 2025, these advanced systems are designed to enhance operational efficiency, survivability, and lethality across land, sea, and air platforms, aligning with the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative.
  • Parashu is a versatile, lightweight remote-controlled weapon station designed for integration on light armoured vehicles, naval vessels, and as static defence points.
  • Fanish (Tank Mounted RCWS – 12.7 x 108 HMG):
  • Specifically built for heavy-duty tanks like the T-72 and T-90, Fanish is equipped with a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun and features a cooled thermal camera and Fibre Optic Gyro (FOG) stabilization.

Agnikaa Jet Series: India’s First Jet-Powered Loitering Munition

  • Adani Defence and Aerospace has unveiled the groundbreaking Agnikaa jet series, marking a significant milestone as India’s first indigenous jet-powered loitering munition line.
  • This advanced weapons system, with variants including the Agnikaa (J1), H1, H2, and H3, represents a major leap in India’s defence manufacturing capabilities.
  • With a weight of 25 kg, impressive flight duration of 1 hour, and an operational range of 190 km, the Agnikaa series is designed to fulfil diverse mission requirements ranging from short-range tactical operations to long-range strategic strikes.
  • Loitering munitions represent a revolutionary category of weapons that combine the advantages of UAVs with precision strike capabilities. These systems are designed to “loiter” in a designated area, conducting surveillance and reconnaissance while waiting for targets to present themselves before executing a precision strike.
  • The Agnikaa jet series represents Adani Defence’s entry into this sophisticated weapons category, with India joining a select group of nations capable of producing advanced loitering munition systems.
  • The base specifications of the Agnikaa platform include a relatively lightweight design of 25 kg, which enhances its deployability and reduces logistical requirements.

‘Golden Dome’ Missile Shield for US

  • US President Donald Trump announced a new missile defence initiative, the ‘Golden Dome’, aimed at shielding the country from foreign threats. He revealed that a bill currently in Congress proposes a $25 billion allocation for the project.
  • He said that “everything” in the Golden Dome missile defence shield he is planning will be made in the United States.
  • Trump further stated that Canada has shown interest in joining the Golden Dome project, and the US would support its northern neighbour in this effort.
  • Initially ordered by Trump in January, the Golden Dome project aims to build a satellite-based network capable of detecting, tracking, and possibly intercepting incoming missiles. The system could involve the deployment of hundreds of satellites dedicated to missile surveillance and response.
  • The Golden Dome concept draws inspiration from Israel’s Iron Dome, which defends against rockets and missiles.
