Sudanese Army Recaptures Presidential Palace

  • The Sudanese army has recaptured the presidential palace in the capital, Khartoum, in a highly symbolic battlefield victory over the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the country’s catastrophic civil war.
  • An officer wearing a captain’s epaulettes announced the takeover of the palace in a video and confirmed that troops were inside the compound. Sudan’s information minister, Khaled al-Aiser, said in a social media post that the military had retaken the palace.
  • He said, The palace is back, and the journey continues until victory is complete. On the other hand, the RSF said it is fighting back and claims to have launched an attack on the palace.
  • The two-year civil war has caused the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, according to the UN. The RSF also still controls large parts of the country, including much of the West.

Indian Army Set To Acquire 250 BrahMos

  • The Indian Army and Air Force are poised to acquire 250 BrahMos missiles, with the deal valued at approximately $2.4 billion USD.
  • This acquisition is currently under review by the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and forms part of India’s military budget for 2024, which totals around $72 billion.
  • The BrahMos missile, developed through an Indo-Russian collaboration, is based on the Russian P-800 Oniks missile and is recognized as one of the most advanced systems in its class. It boasts capabilities such as speeds up to Mach 2.8 and ranges between 300 and 500 kilometres, depending on the variant.

MEDEVAC Operation Out At Sea

  • On the night of 20/21 Mar 25, the Indian Coast Guard’s Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at Mumbai informed the Indian Navy of four crew members of MV Heilan Star having sustained severe burn injuries and requiring immediate advanced medical care. 
  • In the early hours of 21 Mar 25, the Indian Navy successfully carried out a critical Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation from MV Heilan Star, a Panama-flagged bulk carrier, located about 230 nautical miles West of Goa.

  • India protests China’s new counties announcement encroaching Ladakh
  • Government rejects China’s territorial claims Centre says lodged protest through diplomatic channelsThe government on Friday said that India is aware of China establishing two new counties, parts of which fall in Ladakh, and has registered a “solemn” protest through diplomatic channels.
  • In a written response to a query in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that India never accepted the “illegal Chinese occupation of the Indian Territory in this area”.
  • The ministry was asked whether the government is aware of “China’s establishment of two new counties in the Hotan prefecture, incorporating Indian territory in Ladakh”, if so, the strategic and diplomatic measures undertaken by the government to address this issue.
