North Korea criticises US for providing military aid to Ukraine

  • A top North Korean military official on Monday criticised the United States over its expanding military assistance to Ukraine for the ongoing Russia Ukraine war, reaffirming the reclusive state’s support for Moscow in the Ukraine war, according to state media KCNA.
  • Washington and Seoul have been increasingly alarmed by deepening military cooperation between Russia and the North and have accused them of violating international laws by trading in arms for Russia to use against Ukraine. Moscow and Pyongyang have denied any arms transfer.
  • A pact signed by Russia’s Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un during Putin’s visit to Pyongyang last week commits each side to provide immediate military assistance to the other in the event of armed aggression against either one of them.
  • Analysts say that pact would lay the framework for arms trade between the two countries and facilitate their anti-US and anti-West coalition.

Four AFMS Officers Create History In 43rd World Medical & Health Games

  • Four Armed Forces Medical Service (AFMS) Officers have brought laurels to India by clinching a record 32 Medals in the 43rd World Medical and Health Games held in Saint-Tropez, France, from 16 to 23rd June 2024.
  • These Officers, namely Lt Col Sanjeev Malik, Maj Anish George, Capt Stephen Sebastian, and Capt Dania James, made history by winning 19 Gold Medals, 09 Silver Medals and 04 Bronze Medals in the in World’s largest sports event for health professionals.
  • The World Medical and Health Games, often regarded as the Olympic Games for Health Professionals, has evolved into the most prestigious global sporting event within the medical community. With a legacy dating back to 1978, the Games annually attract over 2500 participants from more than 50 different nations.

IAF To Acquire 6 Tapas Drones

  • In a major boost to enhancing indigenous unmanned surveillance capabilities of defence forces, the Indian Air Force has made a proposal to the central government to buy 10 Tapas drones, officials said.
  • Out of the 10, six Made-in-India drones would be for the Indian Air Force, while the remaining four would be for the Indian Navy.
  • Tapas drones are medium-altitude long, endurance-category drones that have been developed indigenously by the Defence Research and Development Organisation and have to be manufactured by a consortium of Bharat Electronics Limited and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.

MDL In Advanced Talks With Defence Ministry For Rs 35,000 Crore Kalvari Submarine Deal

  • Talks on acquiring additional Kalvari-class (Scorpene) submarines for the Navy have progressed, with state-owned Mazagaon Dockyard Limited (MDL) in advanced discussions for a potential ₹35,000-crore deal that will help boost India’s underwater strength.
  • Sources said that the new submarines — three additional Kalvari-class which are under negotiation — will be larger than their predecessor and will be packed with modern electronics that will give them better strength and longer endurance.
  • That came two days after Moscow and Pyongyang reached a pact vowing mutual defense assistance if either is attacked, and a day after Seoul responded by saying it would consider providing arms to Ukraine to fight Russia’s invasion.
