IAF Chopper Drops ISRO’s ‘Pushpak’

  • In a significant mission, the Indian Air Force (IAF) collaborated with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in the Pushpak Reusable Landing Vehicle (RLV) LEX 02 landing experiment and dropped the ‘Pushpak’ from an altitude of 4.5 km.
  • The shuttle was dropped from 4.5 km above the earth to a runway in Karnataka’s Chitradurga by IAF’s Chinook helicopter, where the landing experiment was conducted earlier in the day. The IAF shared a video from the inside of the chopper showing the shuttle being dropped towards the ground.
  • ISRO said that after the RLV-LEX-01 mission, which was accomplished last year, the RLV-LEX-02 demonstrated the autonomous landing capability of RLV off-nominal initial conditions at the release from a Chinook helicopter.

COAS VR Chaudhari Addresses 79th Staff Course at Defence Services Staff College

  • Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, visited, Defence Services Staff College, Wellington on 22 March 2024. The CAS addressed the student officers from the Indian Armed Forces and Friendly Foreign Countries undergoing the 79th Staff Course and the permanent staff of DSSC.
  • The CAS in his address to the officers covered the challenges confronting the Indian Air Force, it’s capability development plan & jointmanship. He spelt out the Transition of IAF into a contemporary and future ready Aerospace Force.
  • The dominant role played by IAF during evacuation of Indian diaspora from Conflict Zones and during disaster relief operations was highlighted by the CAS. He also highlighted the significant air power lessons derived from existing conflicts such as Russia – Ukraine War and Israel – Hamas conflict.

Russia Warns Japan Of ‘Serious Consequences’

  • Russia’s newly appointed ambassador to Japan has warned Tokyo of serious consequences and retaliatory steps if Patriot missile systems manufactured under U.S. licence in Japan end up in Ukraine, the RIA news agency reported on Friday.
  • RIA cited the new envoy, Nikolai Nozdrev, as saying that Moscow would be watching closely to see where Japanese arms exports ended up after Tokyo softened its export rules at the end of last year.
  • In particular, he said, Russia would be watching to see if and when any Patriot missile complexes and missiles made in Japan under U.S. licence are exported to the United States and then to Ukraine.

Germany And France Announce “Breakthrough” For Joint Tank Project

  • French and German Defence ministers Sébastien Lecornu and Boris Pistorius announced major breakthroughs in bilateral defence collaborations on Friday (22 March), as both countries will officially start to develop a new tank and produce military equipment in Ukraine.
  • The goal to explore the possibility of producing the first joint Franco-German tank was agreed between French President Emmanuel Macron and then Chancellor, Angela Merkel in 2017.
  • The MGCS is designed to be a modular system, to replace and develop existing French and German ground combat technology, including the Leopard and Leclerc tanks.
  • Aside from a next-generation battle tank, it will include elements such as a defence system against drones, and guided weapons.
