ICOMM-CARACAL to Manufacture 200 CSR 338
- In a proud moment for India’s defence industry, Megha Engineering & Infrastructures Ltd (MEIL), through its group company ICOMM Tele Ltd, has secured a major contract to supply 200 advanced sniper rifles to the CRPF.
- The rifles–CSR 338 models–will be manufactured at the newly launched ICOMM CARACAL Small Arms Complex in Hyderabad. This facility, built in partnership with UAE-based defence firm CARACAL (part of EDGE Group), is a state-of-the-art hub for producing world-class weapons locally.
- The CSR 338 is a high-performance sniper rifle designed for precision and reliability. The first batch is expected to be delivered by the end of 2025.
‘Androth’ To Be Commissioned on Oct 6
- Indian Navy’s second state-of-the-art anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft ‘Androth’, equipped with advanced weapon and sensor suites, and modern communication systems, is set to be commissioned by the Indian Navy at Visakhapatnam on October 6.
- Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd., Kolkata, with over “80 per cent indigenous components”, the warship is a testament to the government of India’s vision of ‘Aatmanirbharta’ and a shining symbol of country’s growing maritime self-reliance.
- The name ‘Androth’ holds strategic and symbolic significance, derived from Androth Island in the Lakshadweep archipelago, underscoring India’s commitment to safeguarding its vast maritime territories, the Navy said.
- In its previous avatar, INS Androth (P69) served the nation with distinction for over 27 years before being decommissioned. The commissioning of the new ‘Androth’ honours the legacy and spirit of her predecessor.
India’s First Overseas Defence Manufacturing Unit
- Tata Group’s defence arm, Tata Advanced Systems, has established a new armoured vehicle production facility as India’s first overseas defence manufacturing unit in Morocco, Africa.
- The facility at Berrechid will manufacture the Wheeled Armoured Platform (WhAP) 8×8, marking first Indian defence plant in the African continent.
- The manufacturing facility will be inaugurated by Rajnath Singh during his two-day visit to the North African nation from September 22 to 23. This visit marks the first-ever visit by an Indian defence minister to Morocco, at the invitation of Minister Delegate of National Defence Abdeltif Loudiyi.
IIT-Bombay-Led ‘Daksha’ Mission
- The IIT-Bombay-led ‘Daksha’ mission is a cutting-edge Indian space initiative aiming to develop and launch two satellites equipped with the world’s most powerful space telescopes.
- This ambitious mission is designed to cover a vast volume of space—1.81 million cubic megaparsecs—about five times more than NASA’s current Fermi Gamma Ray Telescope.
- Its primary scientific objective is to study high-energy astrophysical phenomena such as gamma ray bursts (GRBs) and the electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave (GW) sources including neutron star mergers and black holes.
- ISRO identified Daksha as a top candidate during its 2018 call for new space missions and has provided seed funding; the mission has met all technical requirements as of December 2022, though full financial and policy approval is still pending.
Made-In-India Portable Drone Jammers
- The Indian Army is poised to place a first order for portable drone jamming technology from Paras Defence and Space Technologies Ltd, a homegrown defence manufacturer.
- This contract, valued at up to $3 million, aims to enhance the Army’s counter-drone capabilities following the heightened threat environment exposed during the April 2025 Operation Sindoor against Pakistan.
- Paras Defence’s technology centers on sophisticated portable drone jammers capable of disabling combat drones within a 3-kilometer radius.
- These systems use advanced radio frequency (RF) jamming and detection techniques to disrupt the communication and control signals between hostile drones and their operators, providing critical protection for troops and installations.
GRSE Signs $62.4 Million Deal With Germany’s Carsten Rehder
- Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) has signed a significant contract valued at USD 62.44 million with Hamburg-based company Carsten Rehder Schiffsmakler und Reederei GmbH & Co. KG for constructing four advanced hybrid multi-purpose vessels (MPVs).
- The vessels measure 120 meters in length, 17 meters in width, with a maximum draft of 6.75 meters. Each vessel possesses a large single cargo hold with a capacity of 7,500 tons, allowing them to carry bulk, general, and project cargoes.
- This contract is an extension of the ongoing 7,500 DWT multi-purpose vessel project already in execution at GRSE’s Kolkata yard for Carsten Rehder.
