India, US Discussing Co-production Of Javelin Anti-Tank Missiles

  • India and the US held discussions on the co-production of American javelin missiles in India to meet the requirements of the Indian military.
  • The discussions on the joint production of the missiles took place recently during a high-level visit from the US to India.
  • India and the US have been discussing expanding their cooperation, including joint production of military equipment. Sources said the requirement of the Army for the latest anti-tank guided missiles is quite significant and the force had to acquire a limited number of Israeli Spike ATGMs under emergency procurement to meet its requirements.

Ousted in Rs 12,000 crore Bid to Supply Carbines to Indian Army, Alleges Vendor

  • The vendor of an Indo-Russian company that manufactures assault rifles in Amethi has filed a petition in the Delhi HC alleging unfair ouster from the bidding process of an estimated ₹12,000-crore contract to supply close-quarter battle carbines to the Indian Army.
  • Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited (IRRPL) produces AK 203 assault rifles at the Amethi small arms factory. Its authorised vendor is M/s BSS Material Ltd. It had delivered the first batch of rifles to the army last year.

India, Bangladesh Sign Mou For Strengthening Military Education In Strategic Studies

  • The Indian Defence Services Staff College (DSSC) in Wellington, Tamil Nadu and the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Dhaka, Bangladesh have signed a MoU for cooperation concerning Military Education in the field of Strategic and Operational Studies.
  • Both the colleges impart training to officers of tri-services, preparing them for higher staff and command responsibilities. Moreover, they share a common ethos, training curriculum and methodology and face similar challenges. Accordingly, they further decided to collaborate and signed the MoU, for further enhancing bilateral engagements.
  • The two nations pledged to co-lead the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management pillar of the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative (IPOI) and cooperate to mitigate disaster risks.

Navy Ship INS Sunayna concludes two-day visit to Port Louis

  • Indian Navy Ship INS Sunayna concluded its two-day-long visit to Port Louis on Monday. The two-day visit witnessed the participation of the Indian Navy and Mauritius National Coast Guard personnel during a joint yoga session on the occasion of the International Day of Yoga and sports fixtures.
  • Post-departure from Port Louis, INS Sunayna proceeded with the next phase of joint EEZ surveillance of Mauritius. Sea riders from MNCG embarked onboard the ship for training exchanges.
  • The visit of INS Sunayna to Mauritius reaffirms the close bond of friendship and interoperability between the two maritime nations.

US Urges Israel’s Defence Minister To Avoid Lebanon Escalation

  • US Secretary of State Antony Blinken called on Israel during a Monday meeting with its defense minister to avoid further escalation in Lebanon as they discussed efforts to reach a deal to free hostages in Gaza.
  • President Joe Biden on May 31 laid out a plan for a ceasefire in Gaza and release of hostages.
  • Hamas, which launched the conflict with its October 7 attack on Israel, has come back with its own demands, and the United States hopes the gaps can be bridged.
  • Defense Minister Yoav Gallant was on a visit to Washington seeking to reaffirm the value of ties with Israel’s top ally, after PM Benjamin Netanyahu publicly chastised the United States for what he said was a delay in weapons deliveries.
