BEL–Safran Joint Venture for HAMMER Weapon System
India has taken a major step toward enhancing domestic defence manufacturing by establishing a joint venture between Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and France’s Safran Electronics & Defence. The two companies have signed an agreement to manufacture the HAMMER precision-guided air-to-ground weapon system within India.
The joint venture will operate with equal 50:50 shareholding, reflecting a balanced partnership between the two nations. The HAMMER (Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range) is widely recognised for its high accuracy, modular architecture, and capability to engage targets with precision. Local production of this advanced weapon is expected to significantly reduce import dependency, support the “Make in India” initiative, and pave the way for deeper technological cooperation between India and France.
INS Mahe: A New Addition to India’s Anti-Submarine Warfare Fleet
On November 24, 2025, the Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe, the first vessel of the indigenously developed Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) series. The commissioning ceremony took place at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai.
Named after the serene coastal town of Mahe on the Malabar Coast, the ship reflects both heritage and strength. Its mascot—the Cheetah—symbolises agility and sharp focus, while the motto “Silent Hunters” highlights the vessel’s stealth-driven operations.
Built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, INS Mahe is the lead ship among eight vessels planned in the class. The project showcases the collaborative efforts of major Indian defence companies such as BEL, L&T Defence, Mahindra Defence Systems, NPOL, and over 20 MSMEs, underscoring India’s growing prowess in naval system design and integration.
13th India–Oman Joint Military Cooperation Committee Meeting
India and Oman further deepened their defence relationship during the 13th Joint Military Cooperation Committee (JMCC) meeting held in New Delhi on November 24, 2025. The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh and Oman’s Secretary General of Defence Dr Mohammed Bin Naseer Bin Ali Al Zaabi.
Both sides reviewed existing defence engagements, exchanged views on regional and global security issues—particularly concerning the Indian Ocean Region—and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation. Discussions emphasised joint development, technology sharing, enhanced interoperability, and improvement of supply chain resilience.
India and Oman also highlighted the importance of ongoing military exercises, such as AL-NAJAH (Army) and Naseem Al Bahr (Navy), which play a pivotal role in improving coordination and operational readiness.
Akash Missile Production Doubled to Strengthen India’s Air Defence
In a significant boost to India’s air defence capability, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has increased the production rate of the indigenous Akash surface-to-air missile system from 50 missiles to 100 per month. This doubling of capacity aligns with government directives to strengthen defence preparedness and support export potential.
The Akash system is a critical component of India’s layered air defence, deployed across multiple Indian Air Force squadrons and Indian Army air defence units. Enhanced production ensures steady supply for domestic forces while enabling India to meet export commitments to friendly nations in the future.
Pakistani Strikes on Afghanistan
- Pakistan-Afghanistan Conflict: As tensions continue to rise between the two neighbouring countries, Pakistan carried out airstrikes inside Afghanistan on Monday night, killing at least 10 civilians, including nine children, according to the Taliban administration.
- Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the strikes hit a residential home in Khost province late Monday, claiming the lives of five boys, four girls and a woman.
- “Last night, around 12 o’clock, Pakistani invading forces carried out a bombing on the home of a local resident, Wilayat Khan son of Qazi Mir, in the Mughalgay area of Gerbaz district in Khost province, as a result of which 9 children (5 boys and 4 girls) and one woman were martyred, and his home was destroyed,” said Mujahid in a post on social media platform X.He added that four more civilians have been wounded in Pakistani airtstikes at the border regions of Kunar and Paktika.
- The move comes hours after Pakistan faced fresh security turmoil at home as gunmen launched an attack on the Frontier Constabulary headquarters in Peshawar, a key security installation near the military cantonment area.
