Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023

  • A joint bilateral training exercise of Indian and Malaysian armies has commenced in Meghalaya’s Umroi Cantonment to enhance military capability for conduct of multi-domain operations in a sub-conventional scenario.
  • The ‘Exercise Harimau Shakti 2023‘, began on Monday and will continue till November five with the Malaysian contingent comprising troops from the 5th Royal Battalion of the Malaysian army and the Indian contingent represented by a Battalion of the Rajput Regiment, a defence release said on Tuesday.
  • The previous edition of the exercise was conducted in Pulai, Kluang, Malaysia in November 2022.
  • The exercise will engage approximately 120 personnel from both sides with both contingents establishing a joint command post and an integrated surveillance grid along with a Joint Surveillance Centre.

Rajnath Singh Celebrates Vijayadashami With Troops     

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Tuesday extended his wishes on Vijayadashami to the troops during his visit to the India-China border at Arunachal’s Bum La.
  • He appreciated the efforts of the soldiers in securing the borders of the country in sub-minus temperatures at an altitude of 15000 feet above sea level.
  • The Bum La Pass is a border pass between China’s Tsona County in Tibet and India’s Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh.
  • He mentioned that Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pande, who is accompanying him, during his 2-day visit, had been informing him about the conditions of the troops.

Pakistan Successfully Conducts Training Launch Of Ghauri                                             

  • Pakistan on Tuesday successfully conducted a training launch of the Ghauri Weapon System, according to a statement by the army, a week after holding the flight test of the ballistic missile Ababeel Weapon System. The purpose of the launch is “aimed at testing the operational and technic
  • Tuesday’s training launch of the Ghauri Weapon System took place days after the US imposed sanctions on three Chinese companies for supplying missile-applicable items for Pakistan’s ballistic missile programme.
  • China, an all-weather ally of Pakistan, has been the main supplier of arms and defence equipment to Islamabad’s military modernisation programme.

Israel Strikes Syrian Army Assets After Rocket Launches

  • Israel’s military said its jets struck Syrian army infrastructure and mortar launchers early on Wednesday in what it described as a response to rocket launches from Syria toward Israel.
  • The military said it had identified two rocket launches from Syria that had landed in open areas late on Tuesday, and that it had responded with artillery fire at the sources of the launches.
  • Israel has traded fire with Lebanon’s Hezbollah and militants in Syria in recent days, a wider conflict over its northern border as it battles Islamist Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip following a deadly attack in Israel.

Air Marshal Sadhna Saxena Nair takes charge as Director General Hospital Services

  • Air Marshal Sadhna S Nair assumed the appointment of Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) in the office of DGAFMS on Oct 23, 2023, becoming the first woman to hold the position on promotion to the rank of Air Marshal.
  • A graduate from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune,  Air Marshal Sadhna S Nair was commissioned into the Indian Air Force in Dec 1985. She holds a Post Graduate degree in Family Medicine and has undergone a two-year training program in Medical Informatics at AIIMS, New Delhi.
  • She was trained in CBRN Warfare with the Israeli Defence Forces and in Military Medical Ethics in Switzerland. She is the first and only woman Principal Medical Officer of Western Air Command and Training Command.
  • For her meritorious service she has been awarded the AOC-in-C (WAC) and CAS Commendations as well as the Vishisht Seva Medal by the President of India. Three generations of her family have served in the IAF over the last seven decades.
