Passing out Parade of 58th Batch of AFMC
In a spectacular ceremony one hundred and twelve medical graduates of the 58th batch of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune were commissioned into the Indian Armed Forces on 25 Apr 2024 at Capt Devashish Sharma, Kirti Chakra Parade Ground, AFMC.
The cadets from the 58th batch of AFMC performed exceptionally well in the MUHS winter 2023 examinations and a total of one hundred and 47 cadets graduated including five cadets from friendly foreign countries.
The ‘President’s Gold Medal’ and the ‘Kalinga Trophy’ are two of the most prestigious awards of the college. This year the ‘President’s Gold Medal’ was awarded to Flying Officer Ayush Jaiswal and the ‘Kalinga Trophy’ to Surgeon Sub Lieutenant Bani Kaur.
25th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas
- In a tribute to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a new selfie point was unveiled at Hombotingla Pass in Ladakh on April 24.
- This initiative, a joint effort by the Indian Army and the Tourism Department of Kargil, honours the valour and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought in the Kargil War.

World Border Security Congress
- A two-member Indian Coast Guard delegation led by Additional Director General S Paramesh participated in the World Border Security Congress 2024 being conducted in Istanbul, Turkiye.
- The event was conducted from April 24-26 in Istanbul.
- The Indian Coast Guard presented a maritime perspective to the Congress on “Maritime Border Challenges” and discussed potential solutions.
- Bilateral relations have been strengthened by the exchange of visits of leaders of both countries in recent times. Moreover, there have been exchanges of parliamentary delegations between the two countries.
- The Members of Parliament have also been interacting with each other at multilateral parliamentary conferences.
US Imposes Sanctions On Over A Dozen Companies
- The United States slapped on Thursday sanctions on over a dozen companies, individuals and vessels, including three from India, for facilitating illicit trade and UAV transfers on behalf of the Iranian military.
- The US Department of Treasury said these companies, individuals and vessels have played a central role in facilitating and financing the clandestine sale of Iranian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to Russia’s war in Ukraine.
- While Sahara Thunder has been identified as the main front company that oversees Iran’s commercial activities in support of these efforts, the three India-based companies to have been slapped with sanctions for supporting Sahara Thunder are Zen Shipping, Port India Private Limited, and Sea Art Ship Management (OPC) Private Limited.
Remotely Piloted IAF Aircraft crashes in Jaisalmer
- A remotely piloted aircraft of the Indian Air Force crashed in Pithala village in Jaisalmer district, the IAF said on Thursday. No damage to any personnel or property has been reported, the IAF said.
- “No damage to any personnel or property has been reported. A Court of Inquiry has been constituted to find out the cause of the accident,” the IAF said.
India-Philippines defence cooperation should not harm any third party: China
- China’s military on Thursday reacted guardedly to the delivery of BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles by India to the Philippines, saying that security cooperation between the two countries should not harm the interest of any third party and harm regional stability.
- India delivered the first batch of the BrahMos missiles over two years after it signed a USD 375 million deal with the Philippines to supply the weapon systems.
- The 1,600-km mid-range capability missiles which were deployed in northern Luzon of the Philippines could reach China’s coast.”China firmly opposes the US deployment of medium-range ballistic missiles in the Asia-Pacific. Our position is clear and consistent. The US’ move severely threatens the security of regional countries and undermines regional peace and stability,” Wu said.The BrahMos missiles along with launchers were delivered by India to the Philippines by a transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force on April 19.Under the January 2022 deal, India will supply three batteries of the missiles, their launchers and related equipment. It was the first export of the BrahMos missile by India.
- India has been looking at further expanding defence ties with the Philippines against the backdrop of growing global concerns over China’s increasing military assertiveness in the South China Sea.
